You'll have a hoot!

Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord, a standalone expansion to the fantastic colorful platformer that constantly shifts between two imaginative worlds, is available 10% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.49 for the first week.

One of them is a perky blonde, always cheerful and smiling. Looking at her you would imagine that she makes her grandma proud. The other one is a feisty redhead with an attitude and punky style. This one is the kind of girl your grandma warned you about. This good girl/bad girl duo call themselves the Giana Sisters. But here's the kicker. They are actually the same person. Imagine that. If this isn't the most prominent illustration of the dissociative identity disorder in video games, than I don't know what is. Giana's split personality makes her experience two very different worlds, each with its very distinctive mood. Even the music she hears in her head changes on a whim. Life must be difficult for a platform game character with that sort of condition. Would you kindly help Giana along her way through her twisted dreams before the Evil Owlverlord takes over?

Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord brings a total of seven new extensive action-packed levels to the colorful Giana Sisters universe. Each of the main heroine's two personalities plays a little bit different and travels through its own dream. Master the original reality-shifting mechanics to overcome obstacles that wouldn't budge any other way. If you enjoy solid platforming gameplay with some imaginative twists allowing for unique puzzles and imaginative level design, make sure not to miss this gem of a standalone expansion. It's more than worth its tiny price tag.

Blast through the dreamworld and nightmareworld to take on your arch-nemesis in Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord, for only $4.49 on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount offer lasts until Tuesday, October 8, at 9:59AM GMT.

JudasIscariot: Lastly, I wanted to let you all know that Black Forest has assured us that we will have an improved and final version of Giana Sisters 1.1.1 some time this month. The new version will be 1.1.2
Now, that's some good news...thanks for the info!
I don't like DLC Business Model games - so propably I will wait with pick up this as some GOTy version ;-)

JudasIscariot: Hi guys,

I just wanted to address some of the concerns raised over the patches for the original Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams game.

Other than adding an "Easy" difficulty, version 1.1.1 doesn't add any new content to the game. In short, there is no content difference between the Steam and GOG versions.

Unfortunately, there were quite a few issues with version 1.1.1 that aren't present in our version (1.02) . However, if you find any bugs in our current build that are supposedly fixed in 1.1.1, please let us know :)

Feel free to ask any questions :)
That's great news :)

PaterAlf: I don't agree. I'm angry as well, but the more people buy the DRM-free version, the more Black Forest Games will be forced to give that version the same support that they give the Steam version.

coldalarm: I disagree. It's been over two months. They said it would take them a month to *create a GOG patch* (let alone one for *their Kickstarter backers*). They are incompetent, if nothing else. It does not take a month to create a version of a patch for GOG. If it does, you are doing something seriously, seriously wrong, or you are lying about your intention to create the patch.

This expandalone should not be on GOG. GOG talk about being about the gamers, about treating us right (hence the extras, the DRM-free rule, etc.), and yet they allow this on despite being fully aware that the devs have not given GOG users anywhere near the same level of support.
Giana Sisters:TD is a great game (I think it's the best modern platformer out there currently) and I do want that patch on GOG, I want the Sweet Dreams mode
But I don't believe that getting the sales of Giana Sisters: Rise of teh Owlverlord (which is bent to be at least as good as GS:TD) down is a way to get the patch quicker.
Rather I'd like more people to enjoy these wonderful games (Buy them! They are great!) and pester the devs to give us the patch:

coldalarm: Don't buy this. The devs will probably not patch it.

We're still waiting (on GOG) - after over two months - for a patch for the main game. So, yeah. Don't buy it.
Thanks for the info. Does this mean there are problems with this release as well, since (I presume) they are built on the same engine? Or is it just the main title that is suffering at the moment? I can understand how that might still be an issue for this game, since if this one turns out to need patching, that could be delayed as well.

Pretty sad that things have reached a point already where different vendors have different versions of the same game. That seems like a huge step backwards to me.

The patch is not a bug fix but adds an additional mode ("Sweet Dreams").
As far as I know the game runs with any problems.

Thanks Pir, I think I'll splash out on this release then. A good chance to try out the mechanic and also have a game that can be a quick play and perhaps completable rather than another log in the backlog. :)

Steam is well known for throwing and imposing game-, save- and mods- breaking patches. Do you people really want that? I'd rather trust GOG staff with making up decisions on whether given version of the game is stable and of enough quality to put it on the site.
From what JudasIscariot wrote, I think it's a really good thing that a patch causing new problems and - in fact - not giving any new content, hasn't been released here.
Patience. GOG always delivers, but it can take some time indeed.
I think there's nothing to rumble about. Calm down and do not throw insults at developers or GOG out of your hat!

Thanks for pointing that out! I fixed it!
I take it this doesn't require the original game, does it?

It's completely standalone :)

Thank you for the update, but you'll have to forgive me when I say I'll believe it when I see it.

Also, I would (personally) class a new difficulty mode and languages as forming "content differences".

I agree with you there, definitely "content differences", though I guess it could be said that the game play levels / areas remain the same. I can see it both ways with that one.
Seems like a weak release as it basically amounts to being standalone DLC. I hope that's not all there is for today.

Twisted Dreams was fun for what it was, but it seriously lacked variety. Towards the end it really dragged on a bit too much. I'm not sure I really want more of the same. Hm.
