New World Disorder.

Chaos Overlords, a futuristic cyberpunk game presenting a gang war for power and prestige, with deep and diverse board game mechanics, is available on GOG.com, for only $5.99.

The overgrown civilization collapses around you under its own weight. Most people are too scared of what the City might now become. You are not most people. You are one of the few, who see all of the opportunities these dark, yet colorful, times of social unrest present. This is your time. This is your chance to reach for power and grab the City by its throat. With your cunning and charisma you're able to convince some of the street gangs to follow your lead. That's how you become a Chaos Overlord--one of the revered and feared few who see the method to the madness of humanity's grim future. The others, however, won't stand by idly as you seize control. You'll have to take it by force, one City block at a time. So, let's start by arming the Renegade Nuns with ultra-fast SMGs and hitting hard the Bicycle Messengers.

Chaos Overlords delivers complex and diverse board game-like gameplay in the flashy setting of cyberpunk dystopia, taken with a hefty pinch of humor. Every game you play can be different from the last one, as you can choose your own victory conditions, take control of different gangs (there's over 70 to choose from!), and equip different weapons and accessories developed in your research labs. The City, represented by a 8x8 grid, becomes a dynamic battlefield and conquering it will present you with many challenges and force you into some real multi-layered thinking. You know you deserve the power, make sure no one stands in your way!

Gaze into the future and behold its terrible glory. This is your playground. Be brutal, be cunning, be quick, reach for power! Grab Chaos Overlords for only $5.99 on GOG.com!

iippo: i think i have this game on some cd hidden away... would be easier to just rebuy it i think :)
CD mix 8, maybe? That's how I got to know the game, it came on this wonderful old CD together with Magic the gathering Shandalar, Z, and quite a selection of other titles. Ah, the old pirate days... I never saw this game actually for sale, to be honest. That's why I'm instabuying it now.

And I finished my first siege replay, it was nostalgic but way too easy. I don't remember it being that easy, then again I've grown and I was playing on the 2nd difficulty level out of 4. And it did feel good to kick all sorts of ass.

Now I want to find someone to have a match against, but it's not bound to happen anytime soon.

kirkiles: +1. I love turned based strategy, this looks like a decent release. Armageddon Empires totally rocks. Like this its a game thats kind of a computer game version of a board game that never existed. Empires would be a fantastic addition to Gog

summitus: Agreed, also Solium Infernum looks pretty cool too :)
It's excellent as well. And Occult Chronicles looks like it will be pretty neat too.
I need to replay Six Gun Saga ; it was nice enough but not as good.

i think i got fantasy general and strike force centauri in the same pack. or something. anyways, it was one of the best "bundles" i ever game across. ...got to find that fantasy general somewhere though.
I've never given much attention to this game as I found it a bit too ugly for its time, but I'm generally curious about it because it had some hype back in the days.

I'll look at some demo or videos to make a more informed decision when I have time. Good to have the option here anyway.
Waw, I had completely forgotten this game even existed! Thank you kindly for reminding me, GOG! =)
Unfortunately my GOG version does not appear to be upgraded to version 1.1, despite the readme that says it was. Version 1.1 added the Search:Sites panel when you click the Rankings/Search button over the word "Search". This popped open a panel that says "Search:Sites" and has tons of little flags you can toggle on/off. Currently no matter where you click on the button it's always the Ranking panel that pops out. This was an almost essential fix/upgrade for me, since it shows you on the main game board what building is at each Site without actually having to click each and every square one at a time!

I sent them a support ticket, so hopefully it'll get fixed. Unless it's just a personal problem of mine! Anyone else got the Search: Sites to work? Look at the Readme.pdf in the install directory for a description of what was added. I can't get it to work... but it works great on my own personal CD install of Chaos Overlords with the 1.1 patch applied.

UPDATE: as a test, I just took my original (patched to v1.1) "Chaos Overlords.exe" and overlaid the one in the GOG installation folder. And it works! GOG has fixed all the other problems I was having with my copy (music fixed, sounds fixed, full-screen fixed, etc.) so this workaround will get you patched up if you have the old version laying around.

I used to fear playing this game because it would invariably end up eating my whole day. I've often thought that this is one classic that really, really, really needs to be remade in some form, with a better GUI, online play capability, a little balance tweaking here and there, new tech, and MORE GANGS! The gameplay core is flexible, addictive, and potentially even deeper - someone please grab this IP and run!

melancthon: someone please grab this IP and run!
Why? Original developer is still active, and working on a Kickstarter for CO2 (Carbon Dioxide? Nah....). More info on Facebook, though he is slow on updating atm :(

Why? Because I had absolutely no idea the devs were working on a sequel, that's why! Wow, I hope they pull through and finish it! Thanks for the link.

I can confirm that this worked for me too, and also seems to have fixed the graphical glitch where building icons weren't showing up properly on the map. Unfortunately, the intro cinematic no longer seems to be working (though that's not really any big loss).
It looks like the money goes directly to John K. Morris which is great.

Chaos Overlords 2 may become a reality yet!
