Some games are made to make you smile, fall in love, and get lost in a magically created world, and few games can delight you like Botanicula.

Botanicula, a charming adventure/puzzle point-and-click, is available for only $9.99.

Little feather-fly, glowing nut/bulb, mushroom, fungus, and branch-guy--here’s the party of five little tree-friends that need your help to save their home-tree from evil black spidery monsters. On your way you will find dozens of tree-creatures: reimaginations of frogs, flies, bees, and beetles, all beautifully (and bizarrely) hand-drawn and animated. The whole environment is alive with chirping, buzzing and music. Actually, the whole environment is music--all your actions will be accompanied by symphony of chirps, tweets, growls, hums and gulps, all created by the band DVA, that won the game Excellence in Audio award at IGF.

Amanita Design, authors of Samorost and Machinarium, have created an adventure subgenre og their own: one where the exploration is as rewarding, touching, and delightful as the actual puzzle-solving. The simplicity of controls (click something when your cursor turns into a hand) combined with gameplay that encourages exploration (click everything that turns your cursor into a hand!) and brilliant ideas offer an amazing experience beyond regular point-and-clicks. You will want to find all the easter eggs before solving every puzzle and when you do, you will want to share this game with all of your non-gaming friends as an example of something that will delight and astound anyone.

Kirk Hamilton from Kotaku summed up Botanicula with a number of “100% true” facts. We found his summation so accurate we thought we’d include a few of them here:
* Botanicula is so adorable that it can only be controlled by picking up a puppy and moving its puppy paws on your computer's trackpad.
* Botanicula is so charming that it stole Julia Roberts away from Pretty Woman-era Richard Gere. He was pretty pissed but reported that he "couldn't stay mad at [Botanicula]".
* Botanicula is so clever that it snuck up behind the raptor that snuck up on Muldoon in Jurassic Park. "Clever game," said the raptor.

Botanicula is probably the closest thing to that dream you once had you never wanted to forget because it was so creative and fun. If you forgot that dream, get it back for only $9.99 now on GOG.com.

TheEnigmaticT: Oh how truly excellent. Thanks for the heads up; I had literally no idea about this.

ZPavelZ: No need for sarcasm, good sir. I was simply expressing my concern for GOGs success.
I mean, of course, customers want more for less, that is why I did not say it is bad for "everyone". I literally have no idea what is good and bad for everyone, actually, and I will not judge. But this is definitely bad for GOG, that is all I wanted to say. Guess my phrase had some second meaning against my own will.
That wasn't sarcasm. I'm honestly astonished and you were the first I'd heard of it. Sorry if that seemed like sarcasm on my part.

keeveek: Seems they used GOG.com to make more publicy about their game (it was announced during the spring conference, ffs) ...

spinefarm: Not only publicity... It made a lot of sales overally... Machinarium made good sells here too.. So yes they are milking GOG and the customers of GOG the bad way... This is the idiotic part.
Going by the sale list, Machinarium is one of the worst selling adventure titles on GOG. So no, it didn't make a lot of sales here.

SLP2000: I don't understand this move, but I think that they (Amanita) might not be satisfied with the sales. If you compare Legend of Grimrock sales, and Botanicula sales, then you may think that Botanicula is not doing that good.

Maybe that's the reason they asked HIB guys to make Debut Bundle, but that's just my guess.
They thought "It's 6:00 in the morning and we're still not rich? Humble bundle, help us!" ???
GOG deserves better than this. I'm not sorry I pre-ordered (especially considering the Witcher 2 backup copy ). Not a cool move on Amanita's part.

LoG is a better game. That is why it had more pre-orders :) Botanicula sales are better than games anticipated here for a long time.... and actually TET can say the range of sales Botanicula have.

Machinarium was released when? And actually how many people don't already own it on Steam/DRM-free from HiB?
Amanita screwed up big time and rage is deserved

ZPavelZ: I also agree with you and think GOG will go out of its way to be more attractive than others (as they always do).
Problem is, Amanita holds all the cards. GOG asks for content, they tell them to go frak themselves. Or at least until their "humble" offer is over, then they will need GOG and other platforms again.

No problem, sorry for this small confusion on my part. And sorry to be the first one to bring you this grim news.

True, indeed. I do not know, actually. I know making deals is hard - both for extra content and discounts.
I guess it is just that GOG guys recently did such a stellar job I already start expecting them to be wizards of some sort. :P Waiting for magic....
Joking aside, though, I feel this is not the end.

Hey all. We don't know what we're going to do yet for all of you who preordered Botanicula on GOG.com, but TheFrenchMonk and I are talking and we're hoping that we'll have some news for you guys tomorrow. 8pm is a little late in the evening to try and get anything done here.

ZPavelZ: Too bad it is immediately available on Humble Bundle. Too bad for GOG that is.

So what is to be done about this nice little stab in the back? Do I sense a juicy bit of drama unfolding?

*oops .. my post came too late D:*

rewsan: I had huge respect for Amanita before this I can't see how they can offer a game for preorder and then on release day put it out for peanuts with the full soundtrack.

I'm still glad I got it from GOG but I'm not sure I'll ever preorder an Amanita game again.
Same feeling as one who pre-ordered from GOG...
I don't mind the fact that for 5$ I could have gotten both a Steam key AND a DRM free cross platform version.
I mind the fact that GOG has an inferior OST compared to the Humble Bundle (which costs LESS), when I was under the impression that the full OST version would cost MORE.

I truly hope that GOG can flex some muscle and get the full OST (I don't expect a Steam key from GOG :P)
Oh yea, the OST also contains a booklet...

I'm VERY mad at Amanita Design for pulling such a stunt...
Sure it may be good for sales, but the next Amanita product I buy will come from a bundle...

I'm really tempted to pay 0.01$ to the HIB and give it to a tree (yes, I know this costs them money, THAT'S the point)

*counting to 10*

NINJA-D! You're A-ok in my book GOG :)

We all appreciate it I'm sure.
I wouldn't go ahead and assume the worst of the Amanita Design guys right off the bat. For one, we don't have much info on what actually happened. Second, everyone makes mistakes - and Amanita seem like cool people from what I've known about them up to this point.

Me, I'll be content playing my GOG version of Botanicula in just a few minutes.

I'm speaking only about myself, but I'm one of those folks who preordered.

So I just wanted to say that I think that most of us aren't feel bad for ourselved (after all, we would pay ~10$ anyway) but I feel a bit sorry for you guys (although it's a business, and if Amanita wasn't satisfied with the sales, I could understand them going their way).

adamzs: I wouldn't go ahead and assume the worst of the Amanita Design guys right off the bat.
They set the preorder price etc for gog then a few weeks later put the game on pay what you want on the day of its release with more extra's than they ok'd for the pre-order people... gotta say it looks pretty bad for them...

BatistutaSRB: Was excited when I saw it released, as I pre-ordered it here. And now I see its on HB with complete soundtrack. Buzzkill.
Pretty much my first reaction. But as I don't really care for the couple beat the average bonus items I just bought the bundle for $1 (to get the full soundtrack). So in the end no harm done really.
