The truth may be hidden, but never forgotten.

Blackguards: Untold Legends, the first DLC to the Daedalic Entertainment's well-received turn-based strategic RPG, continuing the main story line with seven new exciting quests, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99. The base game, Blackguards: Special Edition, is now available 10% off. That's $40.49 for a week!

Blackguards: Untold Legends extends the game with seven new engaging quests revolving around the past of the ex-gladiator Takate of the forest-dwellers tribe. It brings in eleven brand new battle maps and four new devastating weapons to lay waste to your enemies. 25 new atmospheric tracks were added to complement the Blackguards Soundtrack, and are available in both high-quality MP3 and losslessly-encoded FLAC format. Please note, that if you already own the base game, you need to patch it to version 1.3 in order to play the DLC (patch available through the base game's download section).

Fight against rebellious slaves, learn more about Takate's past and stop sinister magic rituals in Blackguards: Untold Legends, for only $5.99. If you don't have the base game yet, you can grab it for $40.49 until Tuesday, March 11, at 2:29PM GMT.

RadonGOG: You´re right! And the second one will proberbly be patched in little time!
Would be nice if multilingual support could become your next "What is GOG?"-principle ;)
But, I think, this doesn´t lie in your hands...

JudasIscariot: That's actually not a bad idea :) I'll pass that along to Marketing :D
That would be good. Or you could just move the text of the banner to the right - something has to be done about the big, conspicuous empty space. Right now it's just a painful reminder...

xep624: and sometimes you have to win two battles in a row before you can save, which can take more than an hour sometimes...
Ouch.

That sounded almost too bad to be true so I went to verify it by looking up the review at rpgcodex, and it's not only true but can interact with bugs for extra 'fun':

"As for stability and bugs, here things can sometimes get nasty. The game crashes and freezes way more often than I'd like, especially in combat, though at least it usually has the decency to crash right when a battle starts (which isn't exactly helpful during back-to-back combat sequences that don't give you the opportunity to save in-between battles, however)."

Though this is just a kind of slightly shocking reminder to me of how things used to be -- buggy software shipped on day 1 with patches months later (if you're lucky). GOG changed that for me for a while because I mostly bought older stuff here that was patched up (about as much as it was ever going to be) years ago. Now with more day 1 releases coming to GOG I may have to take up my old habit of not buying a game until 3-6 months after it comes out so I can patch before I play. (But when AoW3 comes out will I be able to resist? I won't be betting any money on that.)

GOG.com: Fight against rebellious slaves
Well I guess at least Blackguards has got that going for it -- not enough pro-slavery games these days I say. :-P

According to the latest patche's announcement, the problem has been solved : Now, the game autosaves at the beginning of each fight. Meaning that if you quit during the Lice-queen battle, you can reload later at the beginning of this fight without having to do the 2 first ones again.

And yes, despite the mostly negative reviews, this game is a five-star for me : Just difficult enough for me (on normal, I sometime have to restart a battle, and I definitely have to think, but I've never been really blocked), long, no grinding, a good crunchy system, and I like the characters and story. I often let go a mediocre game after a few days, but this one has eaten up my evenings for 2-3 weeks now, and I'm still enthusiastic about it. Bought it full price, and it's worth every dollar thus far.

I guess it's one of these games you either love of hate.

So I think I'll buy the DLC when I will have finished the main campaign. :)
I really hope that Daedalic will consider making another Dark Eye cRPG using the same mechanics/engine as this game, but this time a fully open-world game where you create a full party right at the beginning, Realms of Arkania style.

whodares2: DLC about 5 weeks after release of the "deluxe edition" game......lame.

@ Daedalic: At least pretend like you didn't hold back any content intentionally in order to make quick money after release.

Disgraceful.
Actually after watching documentaries on game making and reading about the process I no longer take that much issue in DLC that comes out not long after release. It seems some developers when in the final stages of a game, beta testing polishing have their art and design people not doing much work as those assets are already in the game. So they put them to work on content for DLC which is a good use of their time. Sure it feels a bit greedy from the outside, but if it means they keep people employed I'm less upset about it. That said I still often wait until all the DLC is out there before buying, just depends. The choice as always is with the purchaser.

ShadowWulfe: My advice: hack your cash and just rebuy the equipment to swap it out for the situation to be acceptable for the patch.
Even if the merchant still has the equipment: I have no idea where I sold those weapons. I would have to visit every single town and hope that the weapons are still there. No, thanks... Patch 1.3 has to wait for my next playthrough ;)

Trust me, they're still there. Plus, it helps to check every town now and then to see if any new quests popped up. Gotta maximize those AP points.

I'm at the beginning of chapter 5 and just visited every town to look for new sidequests (and took care to travel every possible road) ;) But if my weapons are really still out there... Could be worth it, because the patch sounds like a big improvement.

RadonGOG: Weaponsmaster is called to be a very powerful, but of cause also very expensive skill that causes massive bonus on AT, Parade and Damage!
Weaponmaster... I don't think it would raise the AT enough. And I don't really need better PA and TP. My three grunts carry pretty good armor (that's why I had to sold my weapons, because heavy armor has a lot of weight) and they have every bonus you can get to improve dodging.

avatar
RadonGOG: Oh, and don´t forget to raise attributes and debuffs.
I maxed out Strenght, Agility and Intuition for Takate, Naurim and my main character (which means that I maxed out Dodge and Parry as well and have some pretty good AT and Ini). That's why I don't have three weapon skills at 16 and Weaponmaster ;) For a warrior, the attributes are more important than the skills. I put almost every AP in attributes. My mages on the other hand... Can't have enough AP for them. I haven't improved their attributes a lot (just Aurelia a little bit, to make her an acceptable archer). Everything I got went in their spells and passive skills.

On the other hand you'll get four new weapons in the DLC and APs from seven quests and eleven battles :-)

Don't forget that heavy armor lowers your statistics even if you have the highest armor skill. I actually started to use lighter armor in Chapter 5 to get higher AT. I concentrated on hitting more and killing swiftly and didn't mind few more lost LP.

This. Good luck getting any money from me in the future Daedalic.

I've been interested in Blackguards for being a fan of The Dark Eye, but this series I'm skipping.
