In wilderness' loving embrace.

Banished, a medieval village sim full of tranquility that evens out the many hardships of an exile's life in the lush and beautiful, but also harsh and unforgiving realm they've been cast into, is available for $19.99 on GOG.com.

We are the banished ones. Cast away from our homeland, exiled by our own brethren. But the woods are bountiful, the river is full of fish, and there's still months before the winter comes. We will toil and we will moil, from the sweat of our brows a village will rise. We will cut trees to make room for roads and houses, we will quarry stone to build walls, we cultivate the land and hunt the woods to fill our granaries, and we will survive. We must. An outcast is an outcast as long as they don't have a place to call home. A home we shall build then, my friends. Here, in the wilderness no one ever braved. It's either that, or the cold breath of winter and the death it brings. Tomorrow, starts another chapter in our story of hardship. For now, we should rest, and marvel at this beautiful day. This has been a long journey.

Banished is a free-form village sim firmly placed in a medieval setting with every possible calamity that comes with it. You will lead a small group of refugees, exiled from their home kingdom only with the clothes on their back and a small cart of supplies. Now, they need to rip a piece of land from the wilderness and make it their home, where they will live, love, have children, and finally die (let their death be peaceful!). You'll need to keep the population happy and healthy by providing them with food and warm shelter. Watch the town grow as you assign 20 different jobs to build buildings, grow food, craft tools and clothing, and more!

Heed our warning: this is not a city-builder you may be expecting. This is a game of survival where death and despair comes uninvited into the tranquility of your settlement just when you least expect it. We challenge you to lead the Banished, for only $19.99 on GOG.com.

JudasIscariot: I have to say it's downright refreshing seeing a game come out and only weigh 89 MB. Kind of takes me back to the late 90s :)
That was the first thing I noticed and I came here to comment on it also! :) I'm guessing they focused more on the actual game and went really light on movie cutscenes and soundtrack. Definitely surprising to see such a game weigh in at only 89MB though for sure! Looks very interesting... wishlisted.

lukaszthegreat: Please somebody tell me that this game is just bad and broken and sucks and its more fun to have vasectomy than play it?
Pretty please
Nah, it's working perfectly fine :) No brokenness anywhere plus look at how small its hard drive footprint is :D

Pangaea666: By FAR The most expensive game I have bought here, but I wanted to reward the developer for his efforts
You, sir, made me buy it too with those words. Actually the same with price - the most expensive for me. But thinking this is a creation of a single person... He really earned it.
By the way, the same happened with Doomdark's Revenge.

gandalf.nho: Played a bit now, lost some villagers after the second winter by lack of food and I'm always having trouble to mantain a good stock of wood for the constructions and firewood, but I'm having fun with this game

overread: Food is a nightmare, esp because you've got to play a little above what you have. It's very easy to have a nice stock of food coming in then suddenly a few more house and you've got starvation. Having a surplus is good though as that gives you trading material which you'll want for things you can only ship in.

Wood can be a nightmare, but put down a few wood-cutting and planting structures. The other part is balancing the desire to expand with the supply. Let hte firewood build up and then get a bit of a stock of logs before throwing down new structures - whilst remembering that as soon as you've structures in need of logs your log inventory won't restore.
This was just my mistake, put two more houses, managed to cross the second winter fine with only extra food from fish, but with the spring the food supply started to run low and with the orchard not producing yet and the corn field just being re-seeded again, I was unable to resuply fast enough.

Pangaea666: I was doing so well.... but I caved.

By FAR The most expensive game I have bought here, but I wanted to reward the developer for his efforts, and couldn't stand waiting until it's on sale at some point in the distant future either. Besides, when I forked out 50 dollars for Timber and Stone, 20 for a probably better game is well worth it. Right? :D
Same here, I backed lot of KSs including T&S and Banished is one type of game I normally check in KS.

Lack of videos/custcenes and voices can minimize the size of a game and random generated maps too.

It's the most expensive for me as well...

I'm curious about if we will get a "post-mortem" & what it will bear out if we do
Couldn't resist! Haven't bought full priced, even a cheap full priced, game in ages.

No storymode (it's all sandbox), so no need for briefings/cutscenes/voiceover. "Plop" noises instead of vocal warnings. Limited zoom (It's sufficient, but you can't have an eagle view of the entire region or an extreme "street level" zoom in to watch your citizen living their lives, like in Tropico3) so the game doesn't need extremely detailed character models and animations. Limited viewpoint (you can adjust it, but always look downward and never see the sky), so less special effects needed...
It's beautiful, but very focused. I think that explains a lot. It doesn't try to get everything you find nowadays in many city builders, but what it does, it seems to do well. It's refreshing, really.
This looks wonderful. Wishlisted for payday.
Sooo wishlisted...! Looks amazing, especially for being done by one guy. Building a community in a nice looking environment, with rather complex possibilities and NO combat - this is pretty much exactly how I want games like this to be, :D
I just give up! Okay I tried to NOT buy this, but I just had to. Played a little bit, seems nice. I need to join GOG Anonymous. I think I have an addiction.
