Part survival horror, part detective novel, part action, and part adventure--a must-have for fans of exciting thrillers and sublime story-telling.

Alan Wake, the psychological action thriller, is available now on GOG.com--and it’s on sale for 50% off for a week! That’s only $14.99 for the game and both DLCs until Tuesday, May 15th at 21.59 GMT.

From Remedy, developers of classic Death Rally and Max Payne 1 & 2, comes a third-person shooter described by its creators as combination of "the mind of a psychological thriller,” and "the body of a cinematic action game.” The player controls Alan Wake, author of popular detective fiction, who needs to find his wife in a perfect and fictional--yet nightmarish and dreadfully real--town of Bright Falls. The story is told in episodes in style similar to a mystery TV series, with each episode having its own plot but revealing new piece of the main puzzle as well. The story is filled with endless twists and cliffhangers, there are recap sequences at the beginning of a new episode, closing credits, and a lot of cinematic sequences--all of these combine to create a fantastic “film noir” atmosphere, unique to the world of PC horror games. Fans of The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and Stephen King will find numerous references and inspirations while solving the mystery behind supernatural horrors that infest Bright Falls.

Mr. Wake will walk the streets, find clues, and talk to people during the day; he will fight various enemies during the night. Light is the main weapon in Alan’s fight against the town’s inhabitants who have been possessed by a darkness that transforms them into axe wielding murderers. Enemies are initially impervious to attack, and can only be harmed when exposed to light, coming from your flashlight, flare guns, flares, and environmental sources. Even if you’re not afraid of the dark, the game will keep you on your toes, and once the darkness creeps in you will not want to leave your safely lit havens.

Gripping suspense, intense action, great thriller storytelling, flawless design--yes, Alan Wake is a perfect game. Time magazine named it the best video game of the year, IGN awarded Alan Wake “Best Horror Game”, it has also received numerous nominations for “Best Narrative”, “Best Writing/Story”, and “Best Character” (for Alan Wake).

Grab Alan Wake for the next seven days for only $14.99--and get with the manual, wallpaper, and a number of videos and extra goodies (stay tuned for more extras soon) all for one great price! Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!
holy shit
This was... a surprise? Didn't Microsoft publish this game?

Anyways, very cool indeed. Thanks gog and Remedy!

tburger: I would put it on Wishlist but my PC will not run it...Sigh...It's not the first time and I bet not the last one :-(
Has that stopped anyone before? :) I don't think my current PC can run Witcher 1-2 either, yet there they are in my GOG collection (same goes for Assassin's Creed, I think). I am so going to buy this game later today.

I'm wondering whether Alan Wake is still receiving updates, meaning that either GOG needs to update their installer, and/or provide the patches separately... Yes, this is a bit of a problem if and when GOG starts selling newer games. Not a critical problem, but at least it will stress GOG's servers more if people redownload huge games many many times just for updated installers.

PirateNeilsouth: Still though... Alan Wake?, now we are putting up games that are less than a year old I know gog is not doing just classics anymore but this is NOT the gog that most of us expected. Gog has lost it's charm and the cost should never be over £15 !

Some of the older classics are even too expensive, gog was special now it's just another steam company
I do agree that some games are too expensive, but as long as they are new games, I don't mind. Provides another source of price competition.

Now as for RCT3, that's another matter.
Argh...
The computer test on "Can you run it" site says my fanless Zotac GT240 graphic card won't handle it.
Grrr...

FraterPerdurabo: Japanese audio? I'm sold.

Now for the difficult question - The Witcher or Alan Wake?
Which one should I fire up first?
Never played Alan Wake myself so I can only recommend The Witcher.
This is awesome, unfortunately, my computer won't run it. But I will be buying a copy at some point.
oh my god!!! oh my god!!! oh my god!!!

no steam, 15 bucks???

oh my god!!! oh my god!!! oh my god!!!

PS: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

semu: Bought it. Thanks Remedy and Gog!

mcneil_1: So does this mean with Alan Wake's release does that mean the first two Max Payne games in the not so far future?
avatar
semu: Max Payne's rights were sold to Rockstar so answer to your question is no. :( Unless RS is planning to do so, which I find very unlikely...
Well, the description says "Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!", so I assume that Max Paynes will be coming.
Nooooooooooo!!!!

This is a GREAT release but I bought it on Steam already! :'-(

Sad Patryn is sad.

EDIT::: Ah, what the hell. I bought it anyway. I love the game and DRM free ist always great. Thanks GOG!

Awesome release, from what I've heard! If it would run on my system, I'd totally buy it at this price immediately and love GOG for the offer. I wouldn't spend $30 on it, but then again it's still a rather new game like The Witcher 2, so I guess the regular price is justified, too.
So I take it the "Collector's Edition Extras" (here) are not included?

definitely Alan... it's shorter and it hasn't got a sequel which will make you start playing it right after finishing the first :o)

Oh yeah, this is very important for everyone to note. You will need a fairly powerful rig if you want to run Alan Wake. If your computer is newer than say... Two or three years old, you should be fine. If older, check the system requirements before making the plunge.
