Part survival horror, part detective novel, part action, and part adventure--a must-have for fans of exciting thrillers and sublime story-telling.

Alan Wake, the psychological action thriller, is available now on GOG.com--and it’s on sale for 50% off for a week! That’s only $14.99 for the game and both DLCs until Tuesday, May 15th at 21.59 GMT.

From Remedy, developers of classic Death Rally and Max Payne 1 & 2, comes a third-person shooter described by its creators as combination of "the mind of a psychological thriller,” and "the body of a cinematic action game.” The player controls Alan Wake, author of popular detective fiction, who needs to find his wife in a perfect and fictional--yet nightmarish and dreadfully real--town of Bright Falls. The story is told in episodes in style similar to a mystery TV series, with each episode having its own plot but revealing new piece of the main puzzle as well. The story is filled with endless twists and cliffhangers, there are recap sequences at the beginning of a new episode, closing credits, and a lot of cinematic sequences--all of these combine to create a fantastic “film noir” atmosphere, unique to the world of PC horror games. Fans of The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and Stephen King will find numerous references and inspirations while solving the mystery behind supernatural horrors that infest Bright Falls.

Mr. Wake will walk the streets, find clues, and talk to people during the day; he will fight various enemies during the night. Light is the main weapon in Alan’s fight against the town’s inhabitants who have been possessed by a darkness that transforms them into axe wielding murderers. Enemies are initially impervious to attack, and can only be harmed when exposed to light, coming from your flashlight, flare guns, flares, and environmental sources. Even if you’re not afraid of the dark, the game will keep you on your toes, and once the darkness creeps in you will not want to leave your safely lit havens.

Gripping suspense, intense action, great thriller storytelling, flawless design--yes, Alan Wake is a perfect game. Time magazine named it the best video game of the year, IGN awarded Alan Wake “Best Horror Game”, it has also received numerous nominations for “Best Narrative”, “Best Writing/Story”, and “Best Character” (for Alan Wake).

Grab Alan Wake for the next seven days for only $14.99--and get with the manual, wallpaper, and a number of videos and extra goodies (stay tuned for more extras soon) all for one great price! Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future!

MDyzzle: Alan Wake on GOG.com for only $14.99 was a big surprise, but I don't think anyone expected that we're going to start something bigger tomorrow:

Alan Wake's American Nightmare will be available for pre-orders tomorrow!
The game will be available 10% off for $17.99, but if you purchased Alan Wake on GOG.com, the second part is 25% off--that's $14.99 for a game you are not allowed to miss.

What do you think?
I don't want to ruin the fun , but how about releasing the rest of the games from the Sierra city building series or other classics ? Those games HAVE replay value .

That makes the Steam version cheaper, it's $15 (-10%) = $13.49 for anyone and another -15% if you already own Alan Wake there. How about some good competitive price matching :p

Although if you're European, and just picked up Alan Wake here then the Nightmare is a better deal on GOG anyway :)

How long is that offer valid for? I figure I'd play through the original before making a decision on the sequel.
Well, I do have another exam tomorrow, and I do like throwing money at things after exams.

...and I also want that American Nightmare thing, whatever it is.

MDyzzle: What do you think?
I think I'm not going to preorder the sequel when I haven't even had a chance to play the original. I think it's cool that you guys got the original, though, even though I think your breathless proclaiming it "a perfect game" is kind of overwrought.

That and the fact that if we've all just spent $14.99 on a game today, then i dont know about you guys, but i've spent enough recently anyway. Its a bit soon to be adding the sequel......?

I'm with that. It's $15 on Steam and $20 on GOG. I just spent $15 on Alan Wake today, and $10 in the May Hurray Bundle. I'm supposed to be saving this month, and I've already spent $25 on games. $15 is the base price on Steam, that's the discounted price on GOG.

I have no intention of buying it on Steam, mind you. For $15, I can't make any guarantees. Honestly, I'm probably going to wait for a better discount. I've already waited this long for my chance to play Alan Wake, so I may as well wait for a better discount sometime after I've had the chance to play it. However, I'd be much more inclined to pre-order American Nightmare if it was 25% off of $15. ;)

kavazovangel: Now that is value. You should try and get more games in their preorder phase on board.

MDyzzle: Be patient. More pre-orders expected in coming weeks.
Does this mean that GOG is officially in the big leagues and not just an abandonware merchant? I'm looking very forward to being able to pre-order games on GOG.

I wonder whats coming down the pipe... Skyrim DLC?
AWAN is due for release on the 22nd: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/08/alan-wakes-american-nightmare-scares-pc-players-on-may-22/
Well, I guess you can look at it this way when comparing Steam and GOG for this series:

Steam - $30 Alan Wake + $10 Collector's Edition materials + $15 for American Nightmare

GOG - $30 Alan Wake & Collector's Edition Materials + $20 for American Nightmare

Technically, you're still saving $5 by purchasing the games here over Steam when all the sales are done. And even right now, when the pre-order becomes available, you're still saving a little over $1 here. (These prices are for the US, anyway, I can't knowledgeably say the same about other regions)
WOW, I was so surprized to see this one here today. I love the new direction that GOG has taken. I will be buying this game.

Garugo: Steam - $30 Alan Wake + $10 Collector's Edition materials + $15 for American Nightmare

GOG - $30 Alan Wake & Collector's Edition Materials + $20 for American Nightmare
you need to take another look at the actual Collector's Edition contents... you don't get 2/3 of them in the GOG edition.

if it's sold again it's no longer abandonware. the very term 'abandonware merchant' is an oxymoron.
and that 'abandonware' is probably the reason why most of us are here in the first place. i could have picked up Alan Wake in at least 4 different places since February. i don't need GOG for that. i need GOG for old games that are currently abandonware.
