tinyE: When the idea over here of the Patriot Act first came about I actually had to laugh. If all the conspiracy talk about this thing is to be believed then lets just say (without gettng into too much detail) that I am definitly under heavy observation. If that is the case then I really feel for the poor guy monitoring me! While I say a lot of questionable things, and have "dubious" reading material, fact is, playing Carmageddon is about the most derelict thing that I do. To think that there is someone keeping tabs on me doing shit like that makes me bust a gut.
Heheheheh, I suppose that's the real way to fight back, melt their brains with banality, then rise up :-)

granny: The thing everyone, and I do mean everyone, needs to keep in mind is this: you do not have the right to not be offended. If idiots and trolls offend you, tough shit. That's the price of free speech. Don't like it? Tough shit.

keeveek: I have different approach. You feel offended? You feel you've lost some money because somebody said some shit about you or your business? sue the motherfucker. It's not like somebody who is using his nickname online is truly anonymous.

What I never accept is "some people offend me online so I want everyone to take consequences"
I have a different approach: if somebody offends you online (just with writing, not scamming you out of money or something like that), take a breather and calm down. Do not feel like you HAVE to confront this person online. And you don't even have to go back to that site.

While I can't be offended, when someone does piss me off online my first instinct is to one up them with a really funny insult. There are problems with this, namely being that sometimes you don't happen to have a good insult on you. At that point I would agree that just walking away (logging off) is probably the better option, though that is probably my age talking. When I was eighteen I never would have let discretion rule the day.

Yeah, but I mean some serious slander or liabel. Like calling a priest a pedophile, a surgeon a drunk or something like that - gossip can damage their reputation and harm their business, so sueing is appropiate.

I wouldn't take action against somebody who says my mom is fat or something like that ;P

tinyE: Am I the only one who thinks that from a personal stand point privacy is somewhat overrated? I'm not talking about everyone, just the average Joe like myself. My life is an open book, anything you ask no matter how personal I will tell you without hesitation, and I do this to prove that in most (again this doesn't apply to everyone) instances there is nothing regarding my private life that is likely be either remotly interesting or usefull.

Side note; dead on about "1984", but (I'm repeating myself) that has to do with entire social and political systems which is a different ball of wax. I'm only talking about the common fart head tax paying game playing gog trolling homo sapian like myself.
That's the difference, in the case where you get to chose who you tell. I'm an open book in general, but this is provided somebody actually asks me about me. I don't mind telling to a certain extent, but when someone is going behind my back to get information on me, that is where I start having an issue. It is creepy.

It is the principle of it, my life is my business. If someone wants to know something about me, ask. I like to at least have the illusion of controlling my information on who has it and who doesn't and how I am presented.
