Hey all,
I have been a longtime member of GOG but until recently I spent most of my time lurking. I figured I'd start a re-introduction thread for myself and others like me, who may have been around for a while but we maybe haven't properly introduced ourselves to the community.
I go by Cym (sim) and I'm part Welsh, hence the Cym in my name. I am from the US, but saying that I do not believe myself to be superior to other nationals. I know we have a rich and cultured group on here, and I value everyone's opinion unless they are obviously trolls.
I've been a part of the GOG community since 2008, as I said mostly lurking, and the one thing I value about this community is that most of the time it is civil (at least in the threads I read) and people value each others' opinions and knowledge. That says a lot, because as I'm sure you know most places on the internet do not necessarily reflect these values.
I have been an avid gamer since I got my first Nintendo back in 1988, and have switched from console to PC back to console a few times, but finally settled on PC back in 2002. I spent a few years religiously playing Diablo 2 and dabbling in Lineage 2, which got me hooked on the mmo scene.
Since then I have gone through periods of playing mmos and taking breaks while playing single player games, but I will never forget the first PC game that truly took my heart away. It was a gem published by EA and developed by Interplay, which some of you know as Wasteland. It taught me a valuable lesson at the time: do not have unprotected sex with prostitutes! LOL anyway back on track...
My favorite genres are RPG, mmo, and FPS. I have collected several games through GOG's service, most of which I didn't have the luxury of playing when they released because at the time I lived in a rural community and didn't have access to a software store.
I currently do technical support for an ISP, and I love my work.
Enough of the history lesson about me, I just wanted to give you a little info behind the name. I hope all of you are enjoying this fine weekend, and I wish you the best.

some people might complain about this thread since there is already an" introduce yourself" thread. I was ignored in that thread (everybody else got a reply saying "welcome" except for me, jerks) . I declare this thread to be that that one that really matters now!
Been a member of gog for almost a year. I am an old man of 38. Been gaming since Colecovison in 1982, spent the vast majority of time gaming on consoles since then.
I enjoy the forums, but don't consider myself one of the regulars. I post a few times a week and lurk most of the time. A lot of cool people here, but I don't feel like I totally fit in the gog community. ( I don't mean that as a bad thing or depressing thing).
The reasons I say that are:
I like steam more than a lot of other people here.
I don't think gog is as awesome as a lot of other people here do . (It is a good service, there seems to be a lot of "gog guys are awesome altruistic pure hearted saints , steam guys are greedy douchebags doing it only for the money" type comments here though.)
I don't think pc gaming is vastly superior to console gaming

I meant to say, hello CaptainGyro and Mr Cymru from USA.
I joined a while ago, and stayed pretty quiet. But now I'm allot more active.

No wonder nobody welcomed you ;) lol
Kidding. Welcome to the GOG forums, Wishlist is over here, and enjoy your stay! Also, keep a look out for Weclock!
(10 months ago this was the welcome message)
Thanks for the welcome, and hello fellow lurkers!
A fellow Welshman, hey? Greetings, then.
My first gaming experience was on an Amiga 2000 at the age of four, playing a homebrew two-pack of Amoeba Invaders/Asteroids. I was given my very own Amiga 500 for my seventh birthday, and used it until about the time Windows 95 came out, when my dad thought it time to show me how to build a custom IBM/PC compatible (it was either 8 or 12 MB or RAM, and two 300MB hard disks) given that Commodore had gone under.
My first CONSOLE experience was the N64. I know what you're thinking, "But you've been gaming since the late 80's! Surely you must have had an NES!". For my fifth birthday, one of my aunts gave me a check for an NES, but my mom promptly returned it, saying she wouldn't have such a thing in our house. I am the oldest of six children, and my mom believed that a console, or even cable TV, would cause never-ending conflict for control. We eventually got cable when my dad found out that my oldest younger brother, who's an insulin-dependent diabetic, was manipulating is blood glucose levels to induce hypoglycemic shock, and thus a trip to the hospital, because hospitals have cable. After getting cable, and showing my mom the commercials for Super Smash Bros, I convinced her that at least four of us could have a turn at one time and minimize conflict. She agreed, but only if I came up with the money myself. Since then I've had a Dreamcast, a Gamecube, a PS3, and I'm thinking about a Wii (if only for the Virtual Console, that and the backwards compatibility with the GC, since my GC burnt out) and the new Wi-Fi inclusive model of the Xbox 360.
If you see me here on the forums, and I come across as abrasive, just remember that it's nothing personal, I just don't give a damn who thinks what about me or what I say. That said, I sometime try to remind myself that other people have feelings and don't go out of my way to insult anyone. Unless you're a jackass, in which case I'll more than likely rate your post a negative and ignore you from then on.
My favorite Deathmatch weapon, if available is the grenade launcher or anything else with rebounding shots, as my XBox Live motto is "King of Trick Shot!" (shot is singular for humourous effect).
My occupation is "Private Pilot", which in relation to being a commercial pilot is analogous to being a chauffeur instead of a cab driver, although the pay is inversely proportionate (i.e. I get about half as much as a commercial pilot, though this situation isn't typical).
Hello, predcon!
I thought about getting a Wii, but I really do not like the wiimote. Don't ask me why, I just can't stand it...
That's cool that you're a pilot, sorry to hear about the pay situation though.
Thanks for sharing!

I play less with the wiimote and more with the Classic Controller or GC controller when games will allow it. My pay situation isn't anything to garner pity for, I was just saying that I and most other pilots who don't fly for commercial airlines don't usually make the $75K-$100K that commercial pilots do, though our own average of $55K (I won't reveal my exact earnings, as that's not professional) isn't slim pickings either.
Indeed, that's nothing to sneeze at.
Hi kids :D
Well, what's to say: been a gogger (goger?) for almost a year now. Dual xbox360/pc gamer (more pc lately, waiting for dead rising 2 :p). Currently playing Left 4 dead (1 & 2), Arcanum and baldur's gate. My first gaming experience was super mario bros 3 on the NES, with the turles short afterwards. Scarred me for life :(
However, most of the time I don't have to game as I'm currently training for some long distance runs and try to exercise at least one hour a day.
An introduction tread ? I completely missed it and it's has been a while since I'm there... I'm not a big poster but this place is among the few I may post something because discussion are actually civilized and people doesn't overact and start forum wide wars as in some other boards I've seen and all is actually "self-managed" by the community rather than mods.
I'm from the french speaking part of Switzerland. I came up in gaming at 7 when I got my first gameboy, then jumped on the Super Nintendo, then I moved with my family in Poland in 1994 and there my father gave me his old PC. I disliked it at first but when I came to my polish neighbours/friends home they played at their father's computer PC full of pirated games I discovered the potential of PC gaming and I never came back. These games where : Descent 1, Blue Brothers and a few others I can't remember the actual name. When I returned in poland recently I was quite surprised by the place that PC gaming has in stores and how many classics are sold, there's a DvD compilation of all infinite engine games for example.
The first game I original purchased on PC was civilisation and it was a definitive step for me because I discovered strategy gaming, then came a titles such as X-COM, Warcraft 2, RPGs like Ishar, etc... etc... When I came back to Switzerland a decade ago I continued to play on PC, but the machine became old and I was too busy with Warhammer fantasy battles miniatures who kept me aside from what was probably some of the best computer gaming years. One day I passed at a gaming store I was amazed by all the games such as Baldur's gate. I spent one month on the following summer working in a photo lab from 2pm to 10pm with a terrible salary but in the end I had enough to get a new machine and that's where all restarted.
As years passed I saw the evolution of PC gaming in a way I personally don't really like as eye candy became prominent over interesting gameplay, sure there's always a few gems released each year but most products are replicate from things that appeared decades ago, with better graphics and of course all the DRM rubish which I see as an absurdity.
So... an old timer who don't like DRMs and who prefer gameplay rather than graphics ? Seems like in ideal place for me. Strangely I haven't re-bought many old games here because I tend to be very careful with my CDs from the early days, and most of them are working. Here I discovered classics I skipped.
My favourites genres are Turn by turn strategy and RPGs, I also like FPS, STRs and management games but I tend to be a lot more picky with these, I also try adventures or action/platform games from time to time. I also like/play pen&paper RPGs and miniature gaming.
