So I was quite excited at the time for the Sherlock Holmes Kickstarter project, and wanted to pimp it a bit, and also decided it was a good idea to maybe post in the RPS forum too. I'd honestly never even lurked on the RPS forums before, let alone posted in it, but I thought it'd be a good opportunity to jump in there, better late than never.

Some of the responses were completely unnecessary, in particular a few intellectual individuals who kept insisting I was the dev (that mr. doo doo dee dee da or whatever its name is a different kind of idiot altogether). Upon browsing through the forum, some other threads of a similar nature apparently suffered the same fate too. It was just, uh, pretty much a brain drain trying to think of a response that would express my incredulity at the time.

Meh, honestly I should just laugh and be done with it, but just thinking about it riles me that there are some people in the community of a (professional) blog that embraces independent/old-school gaming who make the vibe appear so imbecilic. Anyway, pardon this rant. I've been in posting in 'politically correct' GOG.com for so long, I've forgotten what it is like to respond to sheer stupidity.

I love how that mr.doo guy acts like the entire forum is backing him, when in fact, most seem to be on your side.

EDIT: I jumped to conclusions. The second page starts much less intelligent...

:( Sorry.

The funny thing is, in spite of these insinuations revolving about "DIZ PEEOPLZ WILL NEVAR POST HERE AGAIN LOLOLOL", I have found some rather intriguing discussions (and threads on games that I'm very interested in, that even GOGers don't discuss) that make me want to post on. But yeah, there's an elitist, culture of rejection subverted by a few people that honestly makes me want to cringe. Getting hard to find a nice place to post in without people turning cutthroat on you.
I often find myself taking a moment to appreciate GOG forums whenever I happen to participate in others. Cool off, write off what started as a perfectly reasonable venture on your end, and try not to spend too much time in the heat of the moment.
Lol, just wait itl the 'authors' start to troll you too.

I stopped reading RPS entirely, they seem to base reviews on advertising revenues and delete any posts that critize products currently being 'pushed' at the readers.

All that and the fact that their articles now read like primary school diary entries.

Nothing against RPS, which I enjoy, but I have always kind of assumed their forums would be filled with people who don't think their shit stinks.

Do you have a link? I'm genuinely interested if this is true. I always thought of RPS as one of the last few standing to fight the good fight, in spite of their tendencies towards certain brand names.
The RPS forums are the epitome of snobbish PC-elitist attitudes, but seeing as it is one of the few sites that only addresses PC gaming, that doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
I don't know about you, but only Mr. Doo over there is attacking you, everyone else has either backed you up or simply made fun of the whole "YOU ARE THE DEV" attitude.
Also, I like how gog forums always presume they are the most tolerant and cool, people here confirm that fact to each other and pat each other on the back :) All that, while these forums are on a holy crusade against everything "rotten" on the internet (i.e. DRM) and lynch anyone who even dares to support some of these ideas :P
Stop pretending you are better than others, this community is no less elitist than RPS or many others:) I don't think an objective forum community actually exists anywhere on the internet, some are just a bit more... openminded than others (GOG and RPS for example)

Well, in all fairness, I would never sign up and post a link to anything like that without being directly affiliated with the project. It's just seems sort of ... Bad manners. You know, something a spambot would do.

I'm not. Like I said, pardon the rant. I've never been to a forum where some members would persist in calling me a liar right from the get-go (it's not just that dr doo), especially one that I'd expected would be supportive of smaller projects. And I don't think it's like that all over the forum, but there is this paranoia and/or attitude, that some people keep perpetuating, that crosses inanity, and contributes to an unfriendly vibe. I feel bad for the devs, actually. Who knew it would backfire so badly. I can understand it's rude to sign up just to advertise a game, but it's not like everyone who does that will never be seen around again, or will only post in that one single thread. That there are people who think this applies across the board as a maxim for new posters is pretty incredible.

Point taken and that's fair, as I admitted over there.

If you want to run across lots people bitching about their posts being deleted then look at some Bioware stories... they seem to invoke them the most. You'll have to read a lot of posts, mainly it's posts referring to posts that no longer exists.. but you'll get people who've spotted it and who comments on it.

I have no experience with the RPS forum however I can indeed confirm that some people online are so paranoid and quick to judge it's amazing

I remember since I registered on GOG in 2010, to help spread to word and to help GOG I sometimes still to this day make posts on Forums/Boards/Other places online regarding cool new releases or great promos

50% of the posts that reply to me: accuse me of "Working for GOG"

Yes well we all know how zealous you can be, but I'll never think you're working for GOG. Bit over-the-top in your enthusiasm, and sometimes bordering on annoying - sorry for the bluntness lol - but I don't ever get the feeling you'd work out as a professional employee of GOG. Got any links?
Honestly, the posts in this thread are far more venomous/obnoxious than that. Unless that thread was modded to hell and posts were deleted, like two posters there were the problem. Kind of an overreaction.
