I have received a couple of free games from the Community during my time here on GOG and obviously I'm very grateful for that, I even did giveaways of my own and even gave out a Copy of TW2 here to one lucky person

But the way that the community has been acting lately really puts a bad taste in my mouth

People beg, cry and moan for free stuff, games they believe they are entitled to have for free

It really reminds of the stupid people in the Steam Community who beg on various forums and imageboards

I agree with OP and I also think that it's legitimate for people to try to get a free game. Part of the frustration probably comes from the fact that tons of people, that we never see on gog forums, come out of nowhere just to snatch a freebie. Just like when Ceemdee kindly started her contests.

I must have misread his rant. I thought he was ranting about the people that were complaining loudly that they didn't win a game that they really really wanted, not everyone that goes for a free game. Getting angry that you didn't win something *is* a very obvious display of entitlement. I don't think that it's good to validate the entitlement mindset and behavior, and I think that the wonderfully kind people who happen to gift games in response to the people that complain loudly, however good their intentions, are just reinforcing that sense of entitlement.

I don't know where I draw the line, though. Someone posting "I'd like this game, and if someone would please gift it to me, I'd be really appreciative. Here's my plight..." is not asking in an entitled manner, and I'm more receptive to that than the people that say, "Hey! I deserve a free game! Gimme now!" I recognize that people can have bad times. I've certainly lived under the poverty line before, barely being able to pay for anything over my rent and living off sweet potatoes and ramen noodles. Thankfully, those times are past, but I certainly remember them.

I've won a free game, for which I was extremely surprised and grateful. I've given away a few free games. I don't feel like a vulture, and I don't feel like the people that won the games I gave were vultures.

Well y'know... I might get some heat for this from the campers that this thread was made to basically condemn, but I'll just throw it out there anyways. I'm the fake thewishingwell... I haven't used the account in awhile, but if you've seen my posts under that account you know my feelings the subject. I think it is ridiculous the way people just sit there all day basically spamming F5 in hopes of getting a free game... so much so that I have used fake codes & codes from games that are free anyways just to see there reactions when they realize that they basically got owned. One of those people is actually very active in this thread & they have even fallen for this trick multiple times because they are one of the worst offenders of what this thread was made about (you know who you are). The person in question even made a thread talking about how thewishingwell had disappeared & was disappointed that they had stopped giving away free games that they could F5 there way to owning. I mean, if you happen upon a free game, then cool. If you are making it so much of a chore to get a free game (that you probably won't even play) & then get upset because you don't get it even though you have been sitting there all day waiting for it, then there is something wrong in my eyes.

I think they should try to make it more random. Maybe pick a couple of users randomly and post the winners on the front page. They would then have a certain amount of time to claim them otherwise the next person in line would get them. They could even make the more active users (however active is define) have a higher probability of being selected. It would also reset back to the lowest (default) number if you've won.

I'm guessing some laws on contest, like the USs "purchase not necessary" rule may prevent them from doing this.

if you mean me just call my name and say it aloud or just say the name of whoever it concerns so he or she can reply fairly.
cause i made a topic yes asking about what happened to thewishingwell in good intention and not because of his codes, and which some people accused me of and which i was downright downrated for. it was not how, but just why. and you cant therefor just go accusing someone thinking you know it all.

I'm not afraid of you period... I'm just trying to give you the fucking common courtesy of not dragging your name through the mud. If you want to expose yourself & try to start an argument because you don't like the fact that I called you out anonymously on something that you are well known for doing & I that I have exposed you for doing several times in the past with a duplicate account (not to mention all of the times where you have posted in threads basically begging for people to give you a code or asking where thewishingwell is that I had absolutely nothing to do with) then that's your prerogative. Am I sick for making a duplicate account to teach people who sit in threads waiting for someone to give them a free game a lesson? I guess it decides on what side of the fence you are on... At least I don't use that account to abuse my rep... nah... too easy.

On a side note, I don't see why people obsess over the rep system in the first place. It means & does absolutely nothing.

Oh stop painting yourself the hero here. By not naming names and giving said people the option to defend against the accusations you put forth it makes you looke less credible as a result. Also proof or stfu. You have no real proof he has done anything wrong nor that he is just an evil beggar of games as you claim.

If he begs for a game from time to time this also doesn't make him a bad person(I sometimes ask people for games and then pay them back or make my best effort to, for example, as I am of low means....this usually works out well for both parties in the end as I get a game and they get paid back so i'm not freeloading. Heck sometimes I even gave interest back.).

Same for if someone asks where thewishingwell is/went. Some here also ask that from time to time, especially when a new game is released. This doesn't make those who ask such automatically bad people.

And prove he made a seperate account. Show me IP verification or him admitting to such.
