Alpha Centauri is in a league of its own. Definitely!

Each civ has something unique. Even the first one! Civ4 at launch was also a big disaster, especially on the tech part. But after a couple of patches, everything fell in place. Once Civ4 got the expansions out, it became, arguably, the best Civ game so far. Civ5 kind of followed that trend, but it failed big time in one place: the AI. The AI got better, but it's still a far cry from Civ 3 or 4. Maybe ( a part of me still hopes ), the AI in Civ 5 will be improved in one final patch. Civ 5 proved in the end to be a better game that was initially: took a lot of time and two expansions to get there. But now, it's fun enough to play. Still, not that magic " one...more...turn" feeling.
BTW guys, is there any version of Civ 4 Complete/Gold/whatever with all the expansions, on retail that doesn't require Steam? I know the base game could be found on retail (and I got it), but no idea about a final version.

Should be DRM free (can't guarantee as I bought the base game and expansions separately years ago).

My problem with Civ 3 was that I found the corruption cost to high, which stopped the game being fun for me.

trusteft: As for 5 and 4, My main issue with 4 was religion. I want the simplified version of religion in the previous games 3 and below. Which is why I barely played 4, it made me sick.
5 improved it but then went on to release DLCs which basically you need if you want to play the full game, but added an obligatory religion similar to 4, which I fraking hate. At least in theory since I haven't played 5 yet with the DLCs installed. I will over the next few days.
I would perhaps accept it if there were more options. Have a non religious government/state, even if you have to have certain limitations, but give you the option to ban it in your empire.
Also, why no love for ancient religions...I don't like that. Either you implement religion or don't.
I totally ignore religion, it doesn't seem to make much difference in the outcome.

Same with TW Medieval II - It's only a matter of time before the Pope excommunicates me, either because I totally ignore his demands or because I'm attacking other Catholic nations. Don't care :)

On the US Amazon Site it has it in the description.

Sid Meier's Civilization IV is the ultimate PC strategy game, offering players the chance to lead their chosen nation from the dawn of man through the space age and become the greatest ruler the world has ever known. Now the complete Civilization IV experience is available, DRM (Digital Rights Management) free in Civilization IV: The Complete Edition.

I'm probably going to have to buy a copy, so I can de-Steamify my Civ4. Is the No CD crack still needed on these to enjoy them? Or did they remove that form of DRM to?

nope, no cracks required. just install the game with it and tuck the disc away someplace safe :)
Great, thanks guys!
Just noticed there is a CIv 3 & 4 complete DRM-Free on Amazon for $10-20 depending on seller but most of them with Amazon prime. Anyone have any experience with these versions. From the reviews people are saying that they are DRM-Free, NO CD needed in the drive to play, however there is one review I read with issues installing under Windows 7 64 Bit.

What about Colonization, drm free or not?

trusteft: What about Colonization, drm free or not?
Colonization should be in Civ4 Complete and is DRM free.

There is no mention of colonization in the complete edition linked above.

AFnord: ... Religion in Civ V works in an entirely different way to how it worked in Civ IV. In V you get to chose what your religion's focus will be, and it impacts how it interacts with the surrounding world. As you get to design your own religion, you might very well do one based on an ancient religion (or why not Discordianism?)
Yes, that's the reason why I like religion in Civ 5. It really adds strategic possibilities, especially when religion boosts money or happiness.

You can get it from here, so it should be DRM free. Or do you mean the remake?

noncompliantgame: Save yourselves the trouble.

Don't ever buy Civ V!

All odd numbered versions of Civilization are crap.
avatar
trusteft: I can't figure out if you are kidding or not.

I never liked 1 but it wasn't crap. It had horrible load times on my ST, but still it was a solid game.

3, with all the expansions (ie Complete Edition) is a great strategy game, among the best.

4 which is an even number, I can't stand. But I do accept it is a good game.

I wish 5 didn't have steam as a requirement, but I guess that's what we should expect till Steam collapses or something.
I liked the Call to Power spin-off games too.
