Would anyone know of a free or decently cheap site that would allow you to create your own private (password/login protected, etc) message board or forum? It doesn't have to be anything crazy, just basic functions and ability to restrict access to people you want. I haven't looked around before and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

I have no knowledge of such services, as I use my own web server, but forumotion.com is linked from the phpBB website, so I'd say it sounds good enough.

phpBB is good software for the price ($0) but you still need somewhere to host it. Might be worth playing around with it if your ISP gives you some server space as part of your connection, mine does I think 20MB but its capable of running PHP and the like

Is EzBoard still around? I do remember the adverts getting worse when I last used them years and years ago. Should be far better options around.
For about $7 per month, you can get a shared-server space for webhosting, stick on phpBB or your forum of choice and have the added benefit of expanding when you need to. If your needs and traffic is small, you don't need the expensive flashy options, just something simple.
