Kingoftherings: Maybe they could just implement a date selector at checkout for people who's profile birth date is below 18 so their "parents" can buy the game for them.

Or maybe they could just assume that anyone with a credit card or PayPal is 18.
Except you don't really need to be 18 to have either of those. Parents set up PayPal accounts and co-sign for credit cards for under 18 kids all the time. Then of course there are also the pre-paid credit/debit cards that don't have any real age restrictions on them. The "parental authorization" thing is an interesting idea, and it would probably cover GOG legally, but which do you think would be easier for GOG to do, set up some kind of verification system or just blanket block everyone based on age?
Just an example of why this is annoying: I can buy One Unit Whole Blood.

But not The Witcher.

Why? Because there is no PEGI rating associated with Blood, I guess. Why does GoG seem to default to a specific ratings board?

I don't know how the things are in Australia, but in many countries things like ESRB or PEGI are not LEGALLY BINDING and are just informations...

so for me it's strange that it's forbidden on GOG to buy games for adults if you're not an adult.

Have you contacted support? cogadh's answer about the geo-ip removal reasoning makes the most sense as to why it's happening.

Yeah, sent in a ticket. Hopefully it just ends up being an error, it just seems really weird how it works right now.

Having sex whilst drunk is pointless. Being drunk in service is stupid.

In my country, you can have legally sex with 15-year-old but to watch porn you have to be over 18.

How ironic :D

cogadh: Well, they no longer accurately check region, so they can't really restrict anyone based on their regional ratings system anymore. Using the PEGI restriction was probably the safest compromise.
Got it in one. Since we implemented our privacy policy changes with relatively little notice, this was chosen as the best compromise.
