Obviously I'm interested in that game.
I found a bargain of that game, new and boxed, on foreign Amazon site about 55% cheaper than my local Steam mafia mob. +1 Rep for Amazon methinks!

It's my first xCom game, I know I probably spent some years in a deep coma missing out the originals but here are my questions.

How good is the DLC Soldier Pack?
Do you have an idea if they plan to do a GOTY Bundle thing someday?
Do you think they will come up with an Add-On worth its salt?

I just want to calculate how much money I will pour in this, I have a rather strict policy and quite a harsh limit how expensive games can become for me. Otherwise I would be constantly broke and probably needed 9312312.123123 and counting Terrabytes of Storage space.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

First, a word of warning. The Boxed Amazon copy is regional restricted, thus you will need a bit of work to get it running (I guess it's Amazon US you are talking about).
The DLC gives a bit more customization options, your call if it's something you want or not.
There are 2 more DLC planned, and with a bit more missions on them, wait and see.
The game is worth it. Get it when you can.
Far too early for a GOTY or estimates on what future DLC will bring I think. If you have a strict limit, it's best to wait a year or two for this probably.

Regional restricted? Oh my...

Well actually it's from Amazon UK, Amazon US doesn't like us Europeans that much and our German "border patrol" catching "fugitive" packages from overseas seems to be better trained than the GSG 9 in Counterstrike will ever be.

How do I find out which countries are supposed to work with that version? Google has been slightly unhelpful today. Maybe my inquery was badly spelt.

There are 6 versions of XCOM. 3 retail (or boxed) and 3 steam versions.
Boxed US, Steam US, Boxed RU, Steam RU, Boxed RoW, Steam RoW. NA is North America, RU is Russian, RoW is Rest of World. The RoW are not region restricted, thus Amazon UK should be ok, no matter where you are.
Great! Thanks a lot.
How did you find that out?
I tried to use Google but was unsuccesful, I only had to the read the rantings of Steam users unable to play the game because of the region lock.

CDR Database and wanting to see where I would be getting the game from. The Russian pre-order from steam was region free, but for a few hours after the release was locked down, thus the threads you found.

I lucked out there since my copy was RU ^^

I think some regions were still blocked, even after it was unblocked for me though. Don't remember which though or how/whether that was ever resolved.

NA was locked and still is, you can play it through a VPN. RU boxed was (and is) locked, current RU is locked. RU pre-order wasn't locked before release, was locked for a few hours on release day. I woke up at 03:00 local to play, spent 2 hours unable, said fuck it, back for 2 hours of sleep before going to work, after work I could play, and spent ~35 hours before finishing it.
