Is it worth getting it boxed, over the current offer on Gamersgate? After searching around, it seems that out of the box, it comes with TAGES, which is only removed with patch 1.5. What about the Director's Cut? Does it remove TAGES out of the box? Are there any other incentives getting it boxed, over Gamersgate?
Reasons to get it boxed:
Official "Game Guide": Think those hintbooks from the old days.
Except from "The Last Wish" with horrifyingly bad translation: But still a nice touch. And really nice art.
Paper Map
Game Soundtrack
Music Inspired by The Witcher (some nice music on that)
Other fun stuff on the bonus disc that I apparently never looked at :p
That being said, I think all but the first three (and maybe Music Inspired By...) come with the EE or are free upgrades anyway.
Also, I ended up buying it digital (twice) anyway, just for ease of patching and to further support the awesome game.

I bought the boxed EE set for under $20, lots of goodies and it saved me a 9 GB DL. I installed the 1.5 patch, director's cut and the Insane mod. I can find no trace of TAGES on my system, had a blast playing the game.
Edit: My box install put TAGES on my system but the 1.5 removed it . . . no TAGES after that.
Looks like a new mod release is available

I liked the boxed edition. Nice guides (text and maps), nice cd, nice making of BUT to my knowledge you also get all that digitally...
I personally like to have guides and stuff in my hand and not as a pdf file. Biggest problem with my boxed version was that the game didn't work. The cd had problems... and I definitly wasn't the only one with the problem. If i remember i correctly the official forum page had at the time more than 50 page only about this.
So since i coudn't return it anymore i just rebought it digitally and didn't haven any problems since an still have the guide and map in a non digital form.
I was a bit annoyed about it but i like the developer's ideas a lot (drm stuff and gog and theire whole "phylosofy") so i'm pkay with it know. I was just really annoyed that a game that i bought in a store didn't work. That never happened to me and i must have bought more than 1000 games retail in my life...
Whoa ok. Scratch the promo, I just found the Platinum Edition on eBay and I'll probably get it even though it costs a good 50 dollars. Thanks!
platinum edition? what's that? never heard of this version? what does it have more than director's cut enhanced edition?

It seems to be the same except it includes the excellent Flash mod and maybe some extra adventures.
There's also the Limited Edition, Collector's Edition and Developer's Edition which include some different content again: http://gamecollector.wordpress.com/2010/01/09/the-witcher-collectors-edition/ One of them is especially gorgeous (doesn't seem to be labeled).

^That is really sweet. I just found the limited edition on ebay! I'm gonna get it instead then, having so many the goodies in there is simply wicked.
-edit- Forget it. Shipping is killer :(
It's a shame I have never come across anything other than the standard and Enhanced Edition in shops here. Damn.

that does look great but the problem with all these boxes is that i really can't buy all these copies of the games. I already bought it twice...

I seem to remember that Win 7 didn't support the TAGES version installed by the retail version. The game wouldn't run until you downloaded the newer TAGES driver which fixed the problem. It's been several months so I may not be remembering correctly . . .

I would pass on the standard edition since you would have to install the EE patch and the 1.5 patch . . . course for the right price it would be worth the extra trouble . . . =)

no that wasn't it. I have vista and this was (if i remember correctly, it's been two years ago) really a cd issue. the game wouldn't even install. like there were corrupted files on the disk or something...

There's at least one retail box that comes with no DRM, or so I've read. Someone here surely knows which one.

Actually, Stuff was right about the TAGES drivers. It was not a disc problem. :)
I found the Enhanced Edition in the bargain bin at Gamestop today for $20, but I can't justify buying a censored copy when I could import the uncensored one. Plus, I already have the censored standard edition.
And yes, I know I can patch it out, but its a pain in the ass to deal with from my past experiences with it.
