Hi,

I posted here and asked about installing the .NET Framework versions 2 & 3 a while
back and everyone was so helpful that I thought I'd give it a go for .NET Framework 4.0 :)
So, here's my question...

I'm trying to install some software (not from gog) and the installer is telling me
that the software requires:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Client (Web Download)

I ran windows update and checked to see if it was there and it has this listed:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Windows XP x86 (KB982670)

Is this what the installer is asking me for? The names aren't exactly the same so
I'm not sure. I'm guessing it is but I wanted to make sure before I go installing
stuff I have no clue about.

I'm running Windows XP.

Yes, I'm almost certain that the installer is trying to run this. The one you found is the XP equivalent, so yes, it should work.

(Also, see here if you experience a slowdown in boot time after installing it.)

Cool, system is updated, software is installed and everything is working great.

Thanks for the help!

I don't know if you were hinting that I was installing steam but I wasn't. :)

Just installing a program that let's you create text adventures. I figured
I'd give it a go and try it out. Turned out to be a lot more trouble than
it was probably worth, heh.
