hi everybody im new here. well actually im a pretty new gamer too. i have a really fast quadcore with 3 gigs of ram. and just recently upgraded by 9500 gs to a 1 gig ati 4850. then bought batman arkham asylum. and yes, the graphics are amazing, but i really regret buying it due to the draconian copy protection. so i just don't even play it.
steams ok, but its still drm. ive been getting a lot of enjoyment from places like caiman, acidplay, and indiegames.com. where i play a lot of free platformers. and that's when i heard about gog (when looking for drm free games) and psychonauts on gog. are most gog games able to be played in full screen? or should you ask this every time before buying a new game?
i also am a new xpadder user having just donated for the latest paid version today. will psychonauts work with xpadder? thanx. clear.
Hi and welcome to GOG. :)
With the exception of certain indie titles and a few other extremely rare cases a fullscreen mode is a guaranteed feature of all PC games. Because of their age not all games on GOG are able to use widescreen resolutions, which means affected games will either stretch or display with black bars (depending on your video card settings). DOS and ScummVM games are stuck at the original perspective but Windows games that don't natively support widescreen have fan fixes available to remedy this (some GOG releases incorporate widescreen fixes). If you don't have a widescreen monitor this won't matter anyway, of course.
Psychonauts has integrated controller support, so you probably won't need Xpadder unless you have an unusual controller layout that it can't recognise properly.
Answering specifically for Psychonauts, it does support wide-screen resolutions, and runs very nicely on my laptop - a Lenovo Thinkpad R500, 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, AMD Radeon Mobile 3400 with 128MB dedicated memory, 1680x1050 widescreen.
As an extra note:
though gog games usually work pretty well on modern hardware, there will of course be a few systems that are exceptions. It's always a good idea to check the game forum for that particular game before you buy, just to make sure there's nothing that'll affect you.
Of course you can never be sure, and the game forums are always full of the people with problems, not the people who had no problems... so it can all look more negative than it is.

Too true. The golden realization of forums and comment threads the world over.
I got the graphics and sound working great, but I don't know about the controller. My 360 controller works fine for the most part, it's just the right analog stick that doesn't work... Is there something I'm supposed to do in the options menu?
EDIT: Whoops. I guess it pays to read the readme file. :) I tried this and it works:
2.4.2 SETTING UP THE RIGHT ANALOG STICK
If you find that the right stick on your gamepad is unresponsive or that the axes are swapped, you'll need to manually bind your joystick axes. To do this, simply:
1. Ensure that all of your analog axes (joysticks, sliders, dials, etc.) are in the neutral position.
2. Press Esc to open the Journal.
3. Select OPTIONS.
4. Select Controls.
5. Select Bindings.
6. Scroll down until you see Look Up, Look Down, Look Left, and Look Right.
7. Select either the Primary or Secondary box for LookUp with the mouse.
8. Press Up on the right stick. You should see the name of an axis appear/change.
NOTE: If the red box goes away before you pressed Up, it means that one of your analog inputs is not in its neutral position.
9. Repeat for Look Right.
10. Press OK.
