Hi there.
I've just tried to use my promo code for free game, obtained from CD Projekt (company that own GOG). But, the one and only what happened, VAT tax was removed from my order. The price was still the same. So I cancelled my order and now I can't use my promo code anymore, as it said "It was used before".
What does it mean? Is the promo code useless at all? It was a bonus for registering two retail games, and is it useless? No free game? All that "free game promo code" does is VAT removing?
I've just asked support for my problem, but still no answer from them.
Any tips?
Support can take two to three days to answer, depending when you contact them. It's also the christmas sale/rush period so they're probably a little busy.
The code should not be useless, if you've explained the situation to support, someone should help you out soon.
Thanks a lot for this answer. Problem is, that current promotion with Christmass sale won't last forever. If my code is useless, I need to buy this game. So this is why they need to hurry up.
BTW, this topic was doubled, sorry for that.

I think it's fairly safe to assume that they'll sort it out. The support guys on this site are, in my experience, very reasonable and helpful.
As Ois said, they're probably very busy during Christmas. It will probably take a few days for them to respond.
Are you interested in more than one game? You could also just buy the game that you're most interested in and use the promo code for another one you'd like to play. That way, you could also take advantage of the promotion.

good idea. But I'm interested in games ranging from 7$ to 11$ (current price with VAT) and I still got another promo code left. Which one to buy, which one to get free? Isn't it obvious? I would rather prefer not to loose another code for nothing. And code is valid only for several days.
So if code is useless, maybe I'll buy a game I'm most interested in. If it is still valid, I'll buy the cheapest one (it is obvious, as I said). Or maybe I'll just stop making deals with this company, as it isn't the first time they do something like that.
Well, I think they're definitely honest. Their dealings with me were better than I had reasonably expected. I actually wasn't going to even contact support for one issue thinking that I'd definitely get a 'No, sorry' response. I asked anyway and I got a 'Sure, no problem'. But if you're uneasy, don't make any purchases until you get a response:)
Back to your problem... even without a promo code, I didn't have to pay any VAT. Perhaps it varies from country to country?
I don't know what exactly they offered with your promo code. I do know that the codes work for all games within the same price range. It MIGHT be possible that you got a code for a $5.99 game and you used it on a $9.99 game, leaving some difference. Or it could be that somehow in computing the rebate only the VAT got calculated and not the game price. If you wait for a response, they will probably sort it out for you.
i'm sure they'll give you a new code that will work for even longer if they find that they made an error.
there are a couple of weird things here:
i've never heard of a time-limited gog code before
i've never heard anyone mention a VAT tax on this forum. i don't even know where it would pop up in the order process

they don't work like that. you just get a code for any game, for free.

Not sure about time limit, as the promo covers both retail games and promo codes for GOG games. Maybe only retail games are time limited, but probably both got same time limit.
US got their taxes, we got VAT tax (3,59$ game cost about 5,99$ here). I've heard that US taxes are already applied to the price (maybe I'm wrong), but our VAT is much higher - about 22%. It is automatically applied to all games in my basket.
And removing VAT only isn't the bonus I expected... ;)

I'm sure promo code was for ANY game, no matter the price. And I've tried it for cheapest game, 3,89$ (6+$ with VAT).
Anyway, this company did a lot of mess with their promos here, locally. So I'm expecting the worst... Or maybe I'm wrong?

Support doesn't work on christmas. But I've fixed that order for you, game should be visible on your account. Our support department will contact you after the christmas break. If you will have any more questions, please follow up with them.

Thanks a lot for the answer, but...
Did you fix my CANCELLED order? Shouldn't you ask first if I'm still interested in this game? It is the cheapest one from bunch I'm interested in... Should my other promo code work now, or it was just single, individual fix for me?
Thanks a lot for your help anyway, despite holidays - I know support doesn't work on holidays, but I've asked support at 22.december (US time), it was two working days (let's say 1,5) before Christmass Eve.
Anyway, nice to know they 'll contact me.

I never heard of VAT being applied over the GOG listed price. I understood that VAT is included in it as 15% and is the same for all customers.
For instance, i'm from Romania and here we have 19% VAT. I only pay 5.99$ or 9.99$ and nothing more. The only thing that concerns me is the ROL/$ exchange of my bank that day because my account is in ROL (the local currency).
Every time I had a promo code it was available on any game regardless the value and it was a 100% discount.

perhaps not only the promo code was messed up on my account. A few post above I gave an example of price from my basket. It looks like it was price without current promo discount (5,99) anyway. But when I tried my first order, I chose a game 3,86$, and final price was 6+$. The promo code just removed 2,11$ from that price. As a matter of fact, I dunno, if it was VAT or something different. It WAS current discount price with additional fee, and game price differed from final price on order summary of a few dollars more. But when I've tried it again ten minutes ago, just to make a picture for you as a proof... Voila! Now price on order summary is the same as game price - 3,59$! It looks like all things are sorted out now - perhaps thanks to this fix Venom did for me?
So yes, I can benefit from holiday discount now!
(of course, I need to check my bank account, what was the real charge for this order)
edit:
I was wrong about VAT. Except 15% already added to the price (as described on order summary), there was no extra fee for any of my previous orders here. It was long time ago, so I've forgotten this. It was Direct2Drive from my last deals who adds VAT to their prices.
So I still don't know, what and why an extra fee was added to my GOG orders last week? And what money was removed by my promo code?
And of course, still no answer for my main question in this topic: is my promo code for free game still valid? I don't want to check it myself, as canceling orders could cancel this code aswell...
Still no answer from support...

I have the same situation. I lost one promo code in the same way and I'm still waiting for an answer from the support. Maybe our problem is related to the Holiday Sale because of a bug on the page?
reseting promo code by the Support doesn't help. Promo code still does nothing more than removing discount quota form game's price at order's summary.
With or without "free game promo code" I can only buy game with current discount price.
The only improvement is that now I can to benefit from current holiday sale. I mean, I can now buy games with current, lower price.
And of course, my promo code from cancelled order is "previously used" again... Will it really reset after 6 hours?
EDIT:
Well, it doesn't. Even after about 72+ hours...

Try to check this promo code now, after the sale. I've just tried to use my "previously used" one and it worked.
