wpegg: I'm enjoying following this experiment. Thanks for doing this.

Fujek: I agree completely.

As the prison dilema is nearing it's end a little list of whom's still to encounter which other prisoner:

1) Zchinque :~ Aningan - nmillar - Pheace
2) Aningan :~ Zchinque - nmillar - Ubivis
3) nmillar :~ Zchinque - Aningan - Catshade
4) Ubivis :~ Aningan - Kabuto - Mamutte
5) allukka :~ Pheace - Tulivu - Mamutte
6) Catshade :~ nmillar - Kabuto - Tulivu
7) Kabuto :~ Ubivis - Catshade - Tulivu
8) Pheace :~ Zchinque - allukka - Mamutte
9) Tulivu :~ allukka - Catshade - Kabuto
10) Mamutte :~ Ubivis - allukka - Pheace
Great! This will help a lot.
Catshade didn't responded before the deadline so I have assumed that he wanted to co-operate.

Is it worth continuing? I think we've seen the pattern. Betrayal becomes the more likely choice towards the end anyway, and the trust here is completely gone.

Actually right now is the interesting strategic phase.

Let's take an example.
allukka and Mamuette both are to meet each other and if they can agree to cooperate they can both pass Zchinque. That certainly doesn't eliminate the possibility of 'real betrayal' though, in which case one of the two might very likely become the winner.
Another possible scenario would be that Tulivu grants Catshade a victory, because he can no longer win anyway, but Catshade could manage the first place with a double take on five points. The limiting factor here is nmillar, who can no longer win, but could enter a 'draw' when there's a tie with Zchinque and allukka.

I dare say that the current situation grants a lot of room for tactics, speculation, strategy, betrayal, drama, cooperation,... ;)

Round 9
Final Round

Please send me a gogpm in the next 24 hours with your choice of either betray or co-operate.
If anyone hasn't responded by then I will assume they co-operate.

Since it is only possible to get 5 points a round there are now only four people who have a chance of winning - Zchinque, allukka, Mamutte and Aningan but this doesn't mean that your vote won't count since it could well decide who wins!
Neither Mamutte or Catshade responded before the deadline so I have assumed that they both wanted to co-operate.

FINAL ROUND

Tulivu+5
nmillar (Betray) - Aningan (Betray)

Winner
allukka - 20 points

Thanks to everyone for taking part and congratulations to allukka - send me a pm with your choice of $9.99 game and I'll gift it to you.
Congratulations to allukka, and thanks for hosting the contest, grainne.
So the winner was decided by a technical forfeit due to non-response?

Bummer anti-climax :(
Hey allukka, don't forget to thank me!
Whee! This was certainly unexpected, as I never seem to win anything in any competitions I enter. A pleasant surprise, indeed.

As I already said in my PM, a BIG thank you to grainne6 for hosting this contest. It was certainly a fun experiment.

From the start, I decided that I would just betray my way through the whole contest. It just seemed that the odds were better that way. And it paid out. :)

Thanks again! Nice contest, this was.

Mamutte: you're cooler than cool. :)

Congratulations allukka and thanks grainne6 for the contest.
I missed the conclusion, but thanks for this post. I like the fact that at the end, Ubivis chose to be a nice guy, while nmillar chose to screw them anyway, even though neither of them could win.

betrayal seemed to tempting here though. I'll happily sponsor the prize of the next one (though I'm not dependable enough on here to run it) if someone could come up with a better dynamic. The prisoners dilemma is always skewed towards betrayal, from the "surprise test" line of thinking.

Maybe if co-operation gained increasing rewards as you achieved more co-op successes.

In was kind of disappointed by the lack of tactics and special agreements involved in the end. I expected plenty of PMs negotiating potential points for mutual benefits.
If you intend on running a similar project and automated solution might be the preferable way for you, as there's less steady dedication required and statistics can be generated on the fly as a bonus ;)
I am thinking of running a similar game, but with a tweak that everyone knows with whome they compete... would bring in more strategy. In this round, it was too random in my opinion.
