That's right! Ubisoft, who added Securom to Far Cry 2, is shipping Prince of Persia with NO DRM. From what I've heard, not even a disc check!
Way to go ubi, I hope their sales on the PC are great! :D
Yep. Confirmed. Not even a disc check.

"Although Ubisoft has caught its share of flak over the years, whether it's for lackluster PC ports that show up months after console release or games that release filled with unpopular DRM software, PoP is just as good on your computer as it is on a console. It controls just as well with a keyboard and mouse as with an Xbox 360 controller or DualShock 3. We ran it at a variety of settings, and it looked even more gorgeous than on Xbox 360. It's also worth noting that the disc-based version of PoP (which we played for review) doesn't have any copy protection to stifle your system. An Ubisoft rep told us that there will be copy protection for digital versions, although we found few details around the net on the eve of release."
In other words, don't buy the digital version and you will have NO DRM OR COPY PROTECTION.
That's pretty cool, I might buy it on that alone, I actually hate prince of persia, but I'm for games w/o drm.

I noticed you minus one'd me, please post as to why, or are you too scared?

I wonder what the point of adding copy protection to the DD is? Seems an odd thing to do if the disc version has no CP.
That's awesome. Although they say the digital download versions will contain copy protection. My guess is that it'll use Steam as DRM (provided you get it from Steam). Well, regardless, this is a step in the right direction. They'll be getting some of my money as a reward (like they give a shit).
That's neat, hopefully others will follow suit.
(too bad the game itself is supposedly little more than a barely interactive movie)
Yeah, I heard about this, though I could hardly believe it. As for actually getting it... I'll wait for a months worth of reviews and feedback.
I still can hardly believe it. I'm also deeply afraid that it will be pirated slightly more than usual and this experiment in not being stupid will end before it's really started.
I don't like how it's cel-shaded though...but the The Sands of Time was just awesome.
I have no real interest in the game, but I really dislike DRM, so I will buy it to support Ubi and send a message that No DRM is the way to go with ALL games.
I would recommend if you dislike DRM buy the game and send the message to Ubi; "Job Well done!"
You know what happened the last time someone released their game like this? It was World of Goo, an indie developer, and 90% of the people playing had pirated it.
An amazing game, made by an indie dev, with no DRM... all three ingredients for what a pirate claims he "wouldn't pirate".
This is why we can't have nice things. Prince of Persia will be pirated heavily, and they'll go right back to SecuROM.

Many people, including myself, considered playing World of Goo but were unsure of it as an investment. Other people resorted to piracy, instead of getting the demo. I just decided to ignore it. Can't be that great if no one is willing to put some money into it, and it's not my genre of game anyway.

Not popular =/= low quality, you know. Anyway, it's Lemmings with physics and squeaky goo-balls - what's not to like?
(It's 82% piracy rate, btw, lower than the reported rate for most "piracyiskillingpcgaming" titles. Also, the game wasn't available on torrents before the release date, despite people having access to it. So it's DRM is working better than, say, Spore.)

Keep in mind that as there isn't a demo for Prince of Persia (or Fallout 3) these rare DRM-free games will get pirated as a way of demoing them . Unfortunately most pirates won't bother to pay after they have had their 'sampling' unlike us honest gamers and the piracy rate should be even higher than World of Goo, a DRM-free game with a demo.
DRM or no DRM, it will still be pirated to the death, no question about it. DRM has no impact whatsoever on piracy rate. If people want to pirate this game, it will be done, despite the form of DRM its in.
If this is Ubisoft's "experiment", they will not learn anything from doing this. I have no doubt that the piracy rate will still remain the same
However, this is a good move to win the hearts of legitimate buyers. Obviously someone at Ubisoft management team had some sense to see that despite the heavy restrictions on Far Cry 2, it still managed to make Torrentfreak's top 10 most pirated games list. So why spend all that money on implementing DRM in the first place? I also hope that it will set a precedent for big name publishers to move to DRM-less games.

It obviously was popular, if so many people stole it.
what is my point? my point is, I don't have an interest in the game because it sounds uninteresting.

Are you too scared to say why you gave me a minus 1?
