Keshkirshkinra: Big question here is...

How enriching will the story line be? What emotional depths can we feel for these characters?
You will cry a river of tears upon every death. Mandatorily.

Firebrand9: What made them decide to remake this particular Apogee/3D Realms game over the others?
avatar
gibbeynator: It's probably the one they still had the rights to.
Thanks. That was value-added. Rights are acquired in advance of making the game. They didn't "still have" anything prior. It's not how it works. They also had rights to a Duke Nukem remake that was revoked, but if you take a gander here, you'll see there's more than one Apogee/3D Realms game.

Not to be "that guy", but...

What's up with the "Extreme ROTT" mentioned on the Steam version of the set of Apogee Throwback Pack?

Kind of wondering of RandROTT will be coming to NewROTT.

Those are (now) freeware extra maps for the game.

That pack, along with several of the other map packs, are already included in the GOG version.
Question for the Devs:

Obviously the software and hardware used to develop the original ROTT is prehistoric in contrast to the tools you used to re-imagine it. But my gamer friends and I believe that the limited and rudimentary nature of that old technology forced the Dev teams to be more creative, and try to get as much out of the limited resources they had. Do you think there's some truth to that?
I have a few questions.

1. Will all the versions of the game (GOG,steam etc.) use the same multiplayer servers or will the community be split?

2. No one has yet to kickstart an old-school FPS. There's been RPG's, adventure games, strategy games, space sims and even MMO's but no old-school FPS. Why do you think that is? Is it just too demanding to design something like Doom or Blood where good design is everything and you can't just rely on graphics to make people play your game?

3. What do you think of quick saving in level based FPS? Personally I think it's essentially a cheat and should be treated as such.
Doom and games like it play much better without quick saving as you can't just save scum your way through the game.
Question to the developer team:

On the Steam store page to Rise of the Triad the game is advertised that
it will feature "more than 100 achievements".
Will there anything similar in the DRM free GOG.com-version?
Some questions for the developers:

- Was the creative process of the title affected by the possibility of censorship, due to the extreme violence, or is this an issue that you didn't care about at all?

- I think someone else already asked this, but just in case nobody did it: is your target audience exclusively focused on hardcore FPS players, or did you include some elements in the playability to lure casual players?

- One limitation of the original game, presumably due to technical limitations of that period, was the "ludicrous gibs" vanishing after a few seconds. Was this changed in the new game in a way that you can turn a room into a bloodbath, just like, for example, the Brutal Doom mod?

- Finally, regarding the soundtrack: considering you are using some of the original melodies, why did you decide to use heavy-metal arrangements instead of a more "classical" approach with them? (I'm not criticizing that, it's just curiosity). And by the way, are you introducing new songs?

Thank you in advance!
My question to the devs:

What was it like bringing an old classic into the modern gaming world?

This one isn't a question, but it jogged my memory after seeing the poster above. I would absolutely LOVE to see Blake Stone get this kind of treatment. This is one old game that I would really, REALLY want to see get the modern graphical re-make. Throw in Planet Strike while we're at it, too. My two cents. :)

Maybe you wouldn't agree with this, but I think there could be potential for a clever reboot of Blake Stone. He is essentially James Bond in outer space, after all. So something more like GoldenEye 64 than Wolf 3D. But even if they did just do a similar Blake Stone remake to what you're proposing, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. :)
I've been following the development of this game for some time, and I'm overjoyed to see that it's nearly here! However, I do have one small question:
While using cheat codes to beat the game is cheap and a disservice to the work put into making the experience a challenge, they can be loads of fun for post-completion screwing around. Likewise, the original ROTT contained a heavy abundance of fun cheat codes, and if I've heard correctly, it has one of the highest sums of official cheat codes (not console commands, actual codes) in gaming history. While there was the standard fare of God mode, all items, level warp, and others, ROTT had some great codes, like Missile-Cam and, my personal favorite, "Engine Killing Gibs" mode. Will these abundant codes be returning with the reboot?
Also, will there be a sort of re-imagining of the "This Causes an Error!" level, i.e. a level with the sole purpose of crashing the game?
Thanks!
I have this question for the Developers:

When you decided to update a classic game like Rise of the Triad, what were some of the challenges presented to you and what things did you really want to remain shining through this new iteration of the game? Also, what are some changes/tweaks of your own to the game you decide would help improve this beautiful looking iteration? :)
C-c-c-c-COMBO BREA...... oops wrong game.
My question for the Developers is more of a comment:

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for re-envisioning this amazing game for a new era. I spent countless hours on the original and I can't wait to relive childhood memories on this new version.

THANK YOU!
Can't be bothered going through the thread, but has it been confirmed/denied if you can play multiplayer maps but against bots?
My question to the devs:

Will you seek to bring the Rise of the Triad remake to a wider audience by releasing on consoles? Perhaps digital release through Xbox Live Arcade and/or Playstation Network?
