Real-Time Strategy redefined!

Divinity: Dragon Commander, an innovative fantasy real-time strategy game spliced with free-flight combat action, in-depth strategic view, and some trading card game mechanics, in which you become a fearsome Dragon Emperor, is available for pre-order 11% off on GOG.com. That's $39.99 until the game's release (planned for June).

What is Divinity: Dragon Commander? Imagine a giant army rushing into battle. First, the scouts, agile and fast, with their bows always ready. Then the cavalry, blazing on their relentless mounts. Then, the heavy infantry--warriors of all the shapes, sizes, and races with their plate armors sounding with every step like the bells of doom. Right behind them, the battle beasts--horrors bred with one purpose only: destruction. Some of them pulling the ballistas, trebuchets, and other siege machines. Above them, a variety of zeppelins and flying machines ready to spread death from above. And then, suddenly, a great shadow falling over the battlefield. A gigantic winged dragon swooping down at lightning speed, propelled by a jetpack, breathing fire and roaring fiercely. An image sure to strike fear in the hearts of the enemies. You, however, have nothing to fear. This is your army, and you are the Dragon, its commander and Emperor.

Divinity: Dragon Commander will allow the player to experience war from many unique perspectives, thus breathing new life to real-time strategy genre. The idea to put the gamer in the role of a Dragon commanding its people (and elves, and dwarves, and undead, and--well, creatures) into battle and even taking part in the combat directly is original enough to make things interesting. The people who gave you the acclaimed Divinity RPG series decided however, to add a couple more layers to the gameplay. In the game, you'll get to make diplomatic decisions, manage your empire in an epic world-map mode, and even utilize elements of trading card game mechanics. All that and more, coupled with excellent visuals, and many available scenarios (single-player and multi-player alike), has great chances to become a milestone in the evolution of RTS genre.

Don't hesitate--seize your empire now, to rule it with an iron claw soon! Pre-order Divinity: Dragon Commander for only $39.99 on GOG.com! The Divinity universe is about to get even more epic! Make sure you get to witness it from the start.

Bloodygoodgames: I never buy a game until after it's been released and after reviews have come out. That's probably why I don't own any truly crap games :)
I do it the same way, but even reviews can be very unreliable. Demon Stone has 3.5/5 stars on GoG and the game is utter waste. I was hoping to get at least a decent brawler, but even (or especially?) as a brawler it just plain sucks. If it wasn't part of last winter's D&D bundle that was cheaper to buy whole than just what I wanted, I would really be pissed.

That's true.

I guess the closest thing to getting a 'guarantee' that a game won't be too terrible is to watch part of a Let's Play before buying.

I've done that lately on Clive Barker's Undying. Darksiders and Master of Magic and the Let's Plays persuaded me to buy all three games. Happy to say I wasn't disappointed with any of them :)
By the way, there is RPS article Hand On: Dragon Commander if anyone is interested.

Yes, that or demos. Although even then, Demon Stone starts out decent, the first level is not bad, it's just after a while that you realise the first level is the best or them all. I guess one just has to learn to live with making a bad decision. At least with retail games I can resell them and get away with minimum loss and GoG games are so cheap you would have made that amount of loss anyway. It's really the games above 10$ that hurt (which brings back the topic why one should never preorder digital games).
Oh, I thought it's the other one. That isometric RPG that was Kickstarted.
Love the Divinity series -- I had so much fun with DD! -- but pre-ordering or buying games on release is not for my wallet. I'm going to have to wait for a sale before I pick up Dragon Commander, but the game does look really good.
There's no Windows 8 listed on the gamecard, so... one would think that is correct?

Maybe I am not informed enough, but it is the first I've heard of this and Dragon Commander is included in one of the tiers in Larian's Divinity: Original Sin kickstarter. :-/

Oh wow, this sounds amazing.

A video game whose characters try to persuade you to legalize gay marriage in your lands and that make fun of political statements politicians in the real world have made? JESUS --- I think this game is going to be a MUST BUY the minute it is released :)

Good for Larian, is all I can say!

BTW:

Mivas, thanks for the article link. I particularly enjoyed the "leader who spouts off like Glenn Beck's wet dream" line :)

My thoughts exactly!

If I buy a terrible 6 buck game on GOG, I just put it down as "a donation to GOG". No worries :)

*sigh* Another great game that doesn't work on my rig. Time to start couch-fishing to get money for a new PC....

You're welcome. I think it's time to read the article too after your summary :).
Rockets strapped to a dragon's back? What the fffshenanigans?!
Don't forget to check Divinity: Original Sin in Kickstarter, Dragon Commander is available as a reward in one of the tiers
I can't express at how happy I am that, in the 21th century between all the generic Tolkien fantasy games, there's still a place for Dragons. With jetpacks.

I'm really hoping this is going to be good.

I can wait . It will be on sale at the end of this year .
Nice deal however I picked it up via the Divinity: Original Sin Kickstarter $65 package. I already had a $25 pledge and noticed it part of the $65 package and upgraded. Not a huge saving over GOG but worth it to help raise the Kickstarter tier and get two Divinity games.
