It's £31 actually. When you consider Play has it for £25 already...
This is really awesome news to me. Although I live in the US and am unaffected, GOG scored quite a few bonus points with me when I read they would compensate people hit with regional pricing issues. This is a huge leap from how other services treat their consumers, which is basically ignoring them completely.
Holy crap, this was unexpected I have to say. I mean, there were rumours flying around but I didn't really believe them, I mean blimey! :O

Catshade: Buy the collector's edition, and then sell the game DVDs and other unnecessary stuffs on ebay or craigslist. At least you get some money back that way.
avatar
GameRager: But....but.......I CAN'T BREAK UP THE SET. :(
avatar
KEgstedt: Nothing stops CD Projekt from, say, advertising Witcher 2 to GOG members (with link aplenty on GOG itself and promotional e-mails to the GOG consumer base), and then simply sell it through a sub-section of their official web site, using the GOG download infrastructure if so needed.

My argument has nothing to do with Steam or any other potential publishing option available to the developer in question. The point is rather that all of what CD Projekt will gain by releasing Witcher 2 directly onto GOG can be achieved without muddying the waters as far as branding goes by, well, *not* releasing Witcher 2 on GOG. The name "Good Old Games" is such a square peg that you just can't put it in a round hole no matter how hard you try.

GameRager: Oh stop being suck a perfectionist douche...for lack of better terminology. You remind me of people who dislike titles in their favorite series that deviate from the normal gameplay or feel all the time. It's done, they're doing it, stop complaining about it. I din't think it's as bad as you're making it out to be.

GameRager: You still have a core2duo? Who in their right mind hasn't upgraded to a quad core given their low price and fast speeds and the like? (bat those still playing on ancient rigs that is)

Also, they should list what an equivalent ati would be to an nvidia 8800...I know Nvidia is the most bought video card brand but they should give more info for us with ATI cards. Also when will the recommended(max options) specs be released I wonder?
Even being a quad core owner, a high clocked core2duo is STILL enough for today's games, since most of them are just console ports running at a higher res and AA. Very few games actually take advantage of four cores effectively and max out at three cores, sadly.

It is comforting to know that my current rig will last long, but I miss the days of devs pushing the envelope of what's possible grapahically. The only game that has done that recently is Metro 2033, which was actually well optimized. Better then that bloated Crysis.

Anyway, I wonder if the requirements listed are MINIMUM or recommended. The screen shots so far of the game suggest you'll need a better card then a 8800 to run the game at it's most beautiful.

Finally, a BIG thanks to GOG and CDP, I just don't care that you are selling the game under the banner of gog.com, I pre ordered it regardless ;). I very much hope the game becomes an HUGE success, so it can throw a spanner into the DRM adoption rates. I do love steam and valve, but no DRM is in the interest of ALL gamers.

KEgstedt: It doesn't make sense from a business perspective in so far as the brand awareness they've been building with GOG since the start has been all about providing older games for a low price. To take a silly example, while Coca Cola also selling Pepsi might seem the best of two worlds if you're really into soft drinks, it's going to take some explaining each time you encounter a new customer. Indeed, in GOG's case it's worse because the name itself has now been rendered partially misleading or perhaps (depending on the future of the site) even obsolete.

I would have been perfectly fine with a companion site ("Good New Games"?) build around the exact same layout, payment options, membership structure, shelf page etc. with the explicit goal of selling CD Projekt's own new (and new-ish) games. Perhaps that will indeed follow in the future - at which point any Witcher 2 purchases would be carried over to the new site - but as of yet that's obviously pure speculation.
avatar
GameRager: You want them to work on a WHOLE NEW SITE just for one(maybe two with Witcher 1) games? When they can't even manage ONE site 100% effectively?

And why you dislike them putting one new game here? It's not like it ruins the old intentions or image of the site.....it's just 1 game after all.
Forget what I said in this, for some reason I thought it was teh HD version of serious sam available. Feel free make me wear a donkey hat.

Protoss: I live in Germany. If I pre-order, can I please get?
- English language (does not need to be optional then, too; I don't need German localisation)
- No censorship
I would imagine that there's no infrastructure in GOG to direct you to a censored, German-only game yet. Of course, that won't rule out the possibility that the infrastructure won't be implemented by then, but I doubt CD Projekt could be bothered to develop said infrastructure, to be perfectly honest with you. It's just one game, they've already done enough meddling in the system by accepting pounds and euros, I doubt they want to do some more.

1. They're not that bad imo....I'm not swearing or targetting people which seems a good compromise to me.

2. How have I been insulting besides that case, and the one with the polish dub stuff?

Wasn't second encounter published like back in 2004 and the site started in 2008? The new serious sam second encounter hd with better graphics came out more recently, but I dunno if that's what you're talking about here.

GOG's still selling it for £31. Admittedly with a $6 rebate, but still. It's the amount of money that's going to leave my bank account should I pre-order this from here. (Plus, physical goods always trump digital copies of said goods in my opinion. I'm going to wait until confirmation of the state of DRM on the UK retail versions before putting any money down).

GOG trumps GAME's price at least. (£40? Naff off.)

What in God's name is wrong with the quote system? My last post looks like I just copy pasted game rager response, which looks like he responded to himself.

Which is pretty funny, but damn confusing. :)

Thanks for the insult, but did I ever say that this was in any way a big deal? The strongest word used in my original post is "dislike", and that's about as much as I care about it. There is a legitimate issue here to which no one has offered a remotely convincing counter-argument ("what's done is done" is neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned), but at the end of the day it only marginally detracts from the Good Thing represented by a major PC title being released completely DRM-free.

I don't have a computer that will run Witcher 2 but I will still buy it at least once - through GOG.COM no less! - to support CD Projekt's valiant effort...'cause that's how "perfectionist douches" like me roll...

Quad cores mean we can use the extra power whenever something better is pushed in gaming and other applications. :)

It makes me lol though at people buying HEX CORES which cannot even be fully utilised yet, and for 700 bucks or so besides. Mine is the highest quad core amd makes....hopefully that will last awhile. But even so, in Metro 2033 I get maybe 25-30 fps with max graphical settings and 1440x900 res.

Lol, sorry if I insulted you then. I thought you were ranting about gog becoming not gog by allowing a new title on here like you were obsesses with it or something. So I got a little hot under the collar. Truce?

dreadcog: I thought this site was about old games?
Who cares if its new and being sold on this site. All games become old sooner or later, I think its a bonus that the Witcher 2 is showing up here early rather then later.

Ya made a mistake thought it was the HD version that was available since they came out on GOG around time HD version came out on steam if I remember right.

Original reply has been changed (but you replied before I could change my mistake =p)

Sorry, but that's not what the website says. (Although I clicked on the pre-order button, thinking I'll add it to the basket. It seems that I've accidentally pre-ordered the game. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX.)
