I can afford to buy 3 total, but I want to save a bit for tomorrow(today?) in case we get a good old classic added. Hmm.....(not asking anyone to buy something btw[with this post], in case it isn't clear)...Soulbringer or Commandos? Both seem fun. Maybe a coin toss?

Commandos is more hard to play... it is deffo the better game of the 2...

Both are fun... Another idea play ...Ultima 8 and wait for the weekend promo to get 2 games instead of 1 :D

GameRager: U8: I love RPGs, even the actiony ones(Loved Diablo as a teen..."Yes, it is indeed A COW."....lol)......and this one seems to have graphics that aren't too bad, plus it seems to be set on a different world than most of the rest and has interesting elements of plot/gameplay that I would probably like.

(Oh before anyone says I should try the older ones even with their graphics I have an odd bit to tell: The oldest ones also look somewhat good[1-3], but for some reason the middling ones like 5-6 and 7 look less appealing graphics wise...I dunno why. Maybe my playing of Exiler as a kid influenced my like of that kind of style? :\)
U8 is a decent RPG, but it felt awfully small compared to the previous Ultima games. The controls are also a bit clunky since the devs wanted to introduce some action elements into gameplay, but didn't really do a good job with it. The game has frustrating sequences like jumping around clouds with no way of adjusting the length of your jumps. It was ridiculed as "Super Mario Avatar", which is probably putting too much focus on the action part than that deserves, but you get the picture. The RPG part is still decent, but more in traditional RPG way, without the specific "Ultima" feeling that the previous games had - that's probably due to the departure to a totally different world, and an abandonment of the philosophy and ethics that are at the core of the gameplay for Ultima 4-7.

Basically, U1-U3 are "kill the big baddie" RPGs with not much plot to speak of. U4 introduces a very interesting philosophy and has you become a shining example of it (instead of killing a big baddie), which is a very interesting take, even though the execution is very crude by today's standards. U5 shows the danger of corrupting this philosophy by trying to force it on people. U6 shows the importance of respect for other philosophies, and the benefits of working together with a different culture instead of fighting it. U7 shows how a philosophy can be abused for sinister means (the game starts 200 years after U6, and the philosophy that governed U4-U6 has been replaced by something much more authoritative). U7 also introduces a new big baddie, the Guardian. U8 then takes place in a totally different setting, the only link to the other Ultimas is the Guardian.

In short, U8 failed as an Ultima game, but still is a decent RPG, though flawed with ill-conceived action elements.

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning about the graphics of the Ultima games. It's not that I couldn't understand someone preferring one style over the other, but you seem to be grouping the games together in a way that doesn't make sense. You're saying that 8 appeals to you most, 4-7 the least, and 1-3 are in the middle. But 1 and 3 use the same graphics "engine" as 4 and 5 (only U2 may look a bit different, depending on the machine you play it on), 6 has a unique style and perspective, and 7 uses the same engine as 8 (slightly more evolved). So it seems that the difference _inside_ the groups you're talking about are actually larger than the differences _between_ those groups.

I have postal and the controls can be a bit of a pain. There's that whole issue with turning left, IIRC, I think it was left and not right. I assume that was a sort of political joke, but the controls are kind of hard.

Postal 2 is a much better game if a bit cartoonish, although that's likely out of your price range.
By graphics I was going by the game screens on the cards. Oops.....I actually meant I like the style of 8 most, then 7 and 4-6, with the style of 1-3 the least. I mixed the games up when writing about which appealed to me, it seems. Sorry about that everyone.

I will get P2 eventually, but I want to play Postal for completion's sake before doing so.

P2 is a much better game, the main issue with Postal is the controls, they're rather limited, they were fairly standard for a time, but you can only aim in like 8 directions, or something like that, which means it can be hard to hit things at times.

Other than that, it's a fine game, it's just really hard.

But yeah, if you're the type that needs to play game series in sequence I can understand that. In this case there isn't much in common though.
