Since the witcher and the witcher 2 are coming out soon I was wondering if it's possible to put the game files on a disk to re-install the games if someday I lose my data. This is important because steam gives me the choice to do this so I don't have to re download my games.

Can we do the same on GoG?

Yes. Just burn the files you downloaded onto a DVD. Same goes for the extras: burn them onto a DVD, job done.

Yes. All the games are DRM free, so you just need to burn the install files to disc and you're golden.
I very strongly recommend you do that too. Just copy the installers back to your desktop before you reinstall them in future though. It can be more than a bit slow trying to install them directly from the disc.
I used to burn them to discs but now I just keep two backups on two different HDDs.
awesome.thanks guys!
btw dont depend on the discs as a backup too much :( even a single scratch could mess up the whole installer

That's what I do. It's largely to save bandwidth, plus sometimes I just gotta jones for a large game, and waiting for a GB to download takes quite a bit of time around here.

Curse you Qwest. But, they don't have bandwidth caps, so at least that's something.

I like dvdisaster for that purpose. I love it because I can use it on my CDROM games as well. Doesn't support commercially pressed DVDs, though.

Whoa, that's a pretty cool app! Never heard of it before. Added to the toolbox, thanks!

I like it, I've got a fair number of oldish CDROM games and it's nice to be able to be able to handle minor defects and burn a new disk if need be.

There's also quickpar, but IMHO it works a lot better on files that you've got on your disk, than for CDROMS.
And if you do burn your games to DVD, be sure to check out the unofficial DVD cover list

Better use an external HD. I know how easy it is to have many DVDs and not finding the one you search for...
