Weclock: Ianyone who genuinely cares about getting free shit and recognition from the community as being an awesome guy?
I've seen people compete over rep, in TRYING TO FUCKING HELP PEOPLE.
So you don't think there should be any incentive for HELPING THESE GODDAMN MOTHER FUCKERS?
how about you suck a GIGANTIC FUCKING CHERRY FLAVORED POPSICLE.
No, seriously, it's cool if you think people shouldn't help other people, that's your perogative, but I personally think that these brownie points is the best way to promote good user activity. Many people (including myself) would be a completely different person on these forums if it weren't for the fact that Rep is such a big factor.

Very much agreed... I love my brownie points.

Ahh points. While I help people out for the sake of helping, I, like some others here, find that rep helps to reduce some more of the negative attitudes and builds community spirit.
Some are not going to care, but others will hold back and rethink their comments. We've seen plenty of times how people jump on the negative vote button when they act against the community here.
Weclock and a couple of others are up for hitting 3 stars first. And I'd take a guess that seeing it will make others jump out a bit more to help and gain points themselves. Just for that extra star. Competition can be good!

BladderOfDoom: If anyone genuinely cares about this they should step away from the pc and go do something else for a while. rep is just daft.

err... yeah. Yes Weclock that must be exactly what i was saying...

Miaghstir: The rep is a lie.

Wishbone: It may well be. At least they haven't updated the "Highest Rep" thingy on the "All Forums" page in like, forever.

Well gog is still pretty small so I'd guess once it grows more and more people start posting in the forums, they will start updating those things. Right now most of the games hardly get threads and answers. The only part that is pretty active is General discussion.
I'm for rep, but I'm also only for it if it actually helps create a better atmosphere in this community. Sure, I have quite a lot of rep, and I find that it helps build credibility around the community (who's a regular and who's not, etc.), but that's about it. You wouldn't need rep to build a strong community. If it's here to get more people posting and to stimulate virtual human contact, then this rep business should disappear.

Ah man, stop spreading that! I saw it one time too many already =P
As those unfortunate enough to have actually watched the video know, Weclock is actually a nefarious demon, ascended to the mortal world to gather rep and souls.
Mortals beware, should Weclock the Masked reach 666 rep, the world will burn with green flame, the skies will be torn apart to reveal the void and the seas will be stained red with blood they so crave.

LordCinnamon: Mortals beware

Whew, thanks for confirming that, I have nothing to fear then. I have already achieved nirvana through the almighty Gog. I am no longer mortal.

Come to my place. Bring a hammer.

What's the stakes?
Your used copy of Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie. If you win you can run home with my mint boxed copies of Monkey Island 1 and 2.

Ah, sorry, no deal... I can't run, my feet don't touch the ground.
Fix:
Your used copy of Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie. If you win you can float home with my mint boxed copies of Monkey Island 1 and 2.
Is the deal OK now?
The reward for 5 stars will surely be a t-shirt with "I achieved to have 5 stars and all I got is this lame t-shirt"...

michaelleung: I'm for rep, but I'm also only for it if it actually helps create a better atmosphere in this community.

So you got to be disappointed, no?
Sorry but all this rep feature is useless imo.
First, it encourages "I know all on everything" trolls who post in about every single thread, with the only intention to post something (hmm, wondering of who I'm talking about...)
And also... what's the point to add a competition aspect on a forum? I'm getting tired to see that competition everywhere, especially in job, but here... it's just a place where we can talk. How do we know that someone is sincere when is talking and not just want to have more rep points? And as usual, it's a feature that rewards only those who spend their life on it...
Honestly GOG, you should get rid of that *feature*.
Edit: Weclock, pretty funny to see that even on Youtube you don't have more than 2 stars... ;p

Which would be quite cool, nice nod to Monkey Island - the best good old game ever

Hmm maybe, but be careful, if you target anyone you're going to totally negate any valid points you COULD make because then you sound jealous and bitter.

Oh shit, look at that you couldn't resist. Now you just sound silly, throwing your toys out of your pram. Why target Weclock? He -IS- the most useful person on this forum, by the very evidence of said rep, just like everyone else who has high rep. Sheesh.
