I was wonder which was better, Port Royal 2 or Patrician 3. They both seem very similar in concept and I was wonder which one I should purchase. I don’t really have the funds for both at the moment. Discussion and comparisons for both games would be greatly appreciated.
As far as I can gather, Patrician 3 seems to have more political/city management aspects than Port Royal 2. However I don’t know if this is offset by any interface or other advantages in Port Royal 2.

Patrician 3 is the older of the two games and you will see that in the User Interface.
You have to remember that Patrician 3 is really a buffed Patrician 2 with the same interface and game play.
If I could nutshell it for you I would say Patrician 3 is more focused on the trading aspects of the game without the bells and whistles.
Port Royale 2 is nearly the same game but with a more esthetically pleasing interface and ease of use to a broader audience.
Both are fine games but if you want a more serious trading game Patrician 3, and if you want an excellent looking and trading game that is a bit lighter Port Royale 2 is a great choice.
I could not get both right off so I chose Port Royale 2 for now. I will get Patrician 3 in the future but Port Royale 2 is a very nice looking and playing game.

maybe I just stinky at these kind of games, but that drug wars app that was on phones and etc a while back, was one of my favorites.
You should try demo versions of both games. Demo of Patrician III is actually quite long (3 large levels, as I remember).
As it was told by Faithful, Patrician III is more focused on trading and managerial aspects with a little bit of sea fighting. Port Royale 2 moved into strategy, rather than being only a managerial title.
Asking me, I prefer Patrician III. I live in Europe, so these climates appear more likely to me. And I am more a managerial than a strategy player. AND I am not keen in making sea battles every 5 minutes, as it is in PR2.
