There have been a number of games made that by all accounts I should have liked but didn't. I have been trying to pinpoint what it was that turned me off of those games and I think this is it. Point & Click Combat. For example look at Diablo, I was excited by the idea of an isometrical view graphics based roguelike, but it felt tedious somehow and I only made it through the game once. It was the control scheme, click on an empty space to move or click on an enemy to attack, there isn't much more to it. But I like point and click adventures, what with my many play throughs of the Sierra *Quest series of games. I also like the isometric view tactical point and click games because I like Fallout, Jagged Alliance and Baldurs Gate. But wait, I have never been able to finish Baldurs Gate, maybe because it's not turn based? One of the highest rated RPGs of all time and I can't get past Disc 2, I usually bail when I get into a heavy combat area, because it is point and click. There is the pause feature, that I use ALOT, but it is a poor substitue for an actual turn based system. I also really wanted to like Torchlight and The Witcher but again it was the point & click interface that bothered me. I spent half the time wishing I could switch the controls to the more arcade style of arrow keys/joystick for movement and a button for each type of attack.

So my questions for you other gamers are:
Do any of you also have issues with this same style of controls?
Have you found a good way of getting around them?
Is there an official name for this control scheme that I should look for before purchasing a game I won't be able to play?

Sorry if this come off as sounding whiney, that's not my intent. This is something thats bugged me for many years and I just want to explore my new discovery. So please no "Dude, get a life" or "Just deal with it" type of responses, they don't help anyone.
