This may sound funny, but I miss the inaccessibility of the old days. Back when I had a SNES or a Master System, getting a new game of yours was rare and most games I played were rented. I could only play on weekends and renting games meant I had to take the best out of them in a very short time.
Also, when I got into my first years as a PC gamer, buying a great new game was also rare. Borrowing games from friends was the best way to get to know new things.
Both PC and Console industries were much younger (as I) and experimentation was rampant. There was such a pleasure in experimenting new games, new genres. Today everything is either ultra realistic or ultra neontastic or full of a weird artistic style. We also don't have as many arcade styled games as before. Everything triple A must have a story and a multi-player component. Things can't simply be done, they're always overdone. And don't get me started on the "You need to be online to play your SP game" thing. It annoys me greatly.
Today I have SO MUCH access to everything that I feel bloated with games. I don't even pirate anymore (and I was never much of a pirate) because I don't have time and anything new I want I can get at some point for a decent price without worrying about getting the proper crack or anything. Even the games that made my teenage years fun are accessible through the internet and it doesn't matter the original platform since there's so much good emulation nowadays.
Don't get me wrong, I still love gaming and, while I miss much of the old times, I also recognize that much has improved since then. I can't quite condemn the current industry, because I'm still moved into buying and playing by the same curiosity I had a decade ago. I guess that, in the end, what I really miss is that capacity games had of impressing me.

PC gaming can't die - I mean, the PC is somewhere where Sleep is Death is made for us elitists and Bejeweled for the despicable casual crowd. And that's a good thing.
The same logic can be applied to consoles as well; you have, I dunno, the latest PES and on the other hand stuff like Siren or Demon's Souls.
There's no reason to say PC gaming is under threat from piracy or consoles or anything really. It's just a matter of personal taste, and I always had the notion PC gaming gets more attention. My best pal, a PC gamer from the start, got his mind blown when he saw some stuff on the PS2 (mainly Killer7, ICO and Zone of the Enders) - just because he bought the console afterwards and got some games doesn't mean the PC is dying. It means he's expanding the market.
Multiplatform and digital distribution is where it's at, and the sooner every game goes everywhere, the better. And yes, Steam with SteamPlay means a lot. I think it means far more than we dare to think.

Yep, now everything is available all the time, by legal or even illegal means, all bloated; kids got so many things available to do that they end not having fun with it.
Hell, even we adults are behaving like them: everything is so hyped and so advertised, that when we end putting our hands in the product/game there's little left of that "magic", that impact they had on us.
Of course, I still love games.
