The Saints Row titles all have multiple houses/cribs you can buy. You can customize them lightly via upgrades, but it's very limited as far as choices are concerned.

Pretty much any Bethesda title was previously mentioned.

Final Fantasy XIV will implement player housing in the future.

Guild Wars 2 has a sort of player housing. I believe you get a room or zone to yourself depending on what race you choose: Human, Asuran, Charr, etc.

GTA was mentioned, and I can't really think of any others.

Licurg has player housing. He said any game player that shows up can raid his fridge, drink his beer, and sleep on his couch. I say we take him up on it! :D

Not quite the same thing but I thought it was neat in some of the growlanser games how you end up getting a noble title + land, and you start your own town on it and as the story progresses more people come and the land becomes more developed new shops and features open etc. (although there isn't any actual interaction/customization of it beyond inviting NPCs like shopkeepers in sidequests). Castles in Suikoden, too.

Foresaken fortress is going to be largely focused around the issue of housing. I can hardly wait to play.

Project Eternity will have a player stronghold. The latest update describes planned stronghold features.

This bit sounds particularly interesting:

"If you have cleared the dungeon and built a prison under your stronghold, then when you are fighting some of the named NPC’s in the game, you will be given an option to take them prisoner instead of killing them. Prisoners are kept in a cell in your prison, where you can visit them and talk to them, and occasionally use them as leverage later in the game. But you will need to keep your security level high, or you might suffer from a prison break!"

I thought that this was targeted to little girls... guess I'm wrong. ;p Yup. You can have your own brothel, which is in fact an improved house.


I thought about Divine Divinity. A pyramid and two bundles of straw and done, you have your house. ;p

Suikoden series

You can get a castle or a variant of it. You can upgrade your castle and accessorize it with items you get in game. The castle will be populated by your followers/army.

Saint Row series

Buy apartments/safe houses and you can decorate it and if you want to you can fill it with hookers.

You got your own cabin, well this is worked with Eve online as well since they are sister games.

It's a shame that WoW, for instance, does not have any kind of player housing. Well, they have the damn farm, but that doesn't really count.

Really odd. There are roleplaying servers, yet they do nothing to encourage roleplay...

They never had the technology for it from the start (like LotrO, where the homesteads is basically different instances), and it would now become to much of a hassle to implement. There is also a to big user base (10 million houses?), especially since many dedicated wow players have an arsenal of alts (I had 7 mains at a time....). It means there is a lot of space needed to run the housing.

It is a shame, yes, but technologically I can see how it would be difficult to implement.

EverQuest Next, on the other hand, is going to be built on a voxel engine, and it looks like players can build houses and towns there, thought it will still be very restricted.

That's a cool feature but I hope the game explains how they break out and it's not something random so just in a while, even if you prepare yourself, they just break out and you'll have to clean up some mess like rebuild your security or find more enemies to talk to.

In Arcanum you can buy a mansion, but only if the previous owner has had an... unfortunate accident.

How about Overlord? Get your own evil tower and customize it to your liking. There's even a Scrooge McDuck-style treasure room, probably my favorite part. They also had that in Fable 3, in your little pocket-dimension closet thing.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but Shroud of the Avatar is putting houses in...It's a money maker for them as they are charging you for the house and charging for property tax unless you donated over $500.

Runescape has player-owned housing for subscribers, and an associated Construction skill (which is basically a huge gold sink, but does make certain aspects of other skills easier to train).
