Dammit I already have a huge backlog to play, I can wait to play Planescape, I've been waiting for ages. But what if there start to be legal issues, I might never get a chance again. D:
Well, could someone tell us something about this re-releases ?
Not me, I'm still waiting for my copy of Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast to arrive... ordered it a while before release so I'm not sure what's taking so long, they estimated the 26th so maybe it'll get here this week.
I assume any differences from the originals will be minimal (if anything at all), the only error/bug/incompatibility I can think of for BG is that there are small troubles with multiplayer on Vista and 7 (game crashes or hangs if trying to start or join a multiplayer game while in full screen, change to window mode before connecting, then back and it works fine), for PS:T it would be that it wants to run in 16-bit colours (apparently some spell effects or whatever won't work in 32-bit mode).
Having significant problems with it...
Firstly, I could only get it to run in a window, which is stuck at a tiny resolution compared to my 1680x1050.
Also, it crashes on exit.
I was thinking of getting widescreen mods etc., but I don't even know what version of the game it is, since installing mods seems to be affected by the 2CD/4CD versions (one needs a patch, the other doesn't).
Basically, if anyone's got any idiots guides to this sort of thing, I'd be grateful.
I never had this much problem with BG on XP.

Here are a couple of images I made of the game box I recently got for a penny and it says it is Vista compatible.
The DVD version is 1.0.0000
The problem I am having is if I go out to the menu and come back the screen has black boxes in areas. In fact I just loaded it up make sure of version number and the black areas are there all the time now.
I wish I could get it working correctly as well. If anyone does know of a mod to make it work better that would be great.

Well, it does work to a certain extent in Vista, but it's hardly fully compatible.
One of my particular annoyances is that the manual and readme are for the old versions, so they don't even mention Vista in any form.
Perhaps I was expecting too much for them to include a readme with common vista issues and workarounds.

And it does actually state it's published by Interplay - a company that denies all knowledge of this re-release. Very strange.
Hey guys,
If anyone is still looking for a copy, GoGamer.com has it for USD .90 right now.
Just scroll down to the PC game section (close to the bottom).

I got my copy on ebay for 16 pounds. Installed it, it works, now all I need is time to get into it :D which will be hopefully in this decade. 2010 still counts as this decade, right?
To those that bought it and thus own original version:
Just download 4CD copy from somewhere, apply this tweakguide:
http://thunderpeel2001.blogspot.com/2009/01/planescape-torment-fully-modded.html
And enjoy one of the best games ever in 1280*800 and all tweaks, patches and mods ever made.I finished this version and did not have one crash or bug.

I think it is the 4CD version, just squished onto one DVD.
I'll give this list a try, and see what happens.
I wonder if I need the nVidia patch, despite it saying it's for 8xxx cards, would the same apply to more modern cards? I have a GTX 285.
I would still probably get the 4CD version, just to be sure..it is possible the file structure is different or something.
And yes, the last thing to apply is the nVidia patch - I have GTX280 and without it the fog of war looks weird. With it, everything is perfect.

tried the various mods and it didn't work at all. (followed the step-by-step guide to the letter)
God knows where I would get the 4CD version... I can only think of one way really, and even then I don't know how I would be able to tell which version it was.
I wonder if I have slightly larger problems though, since I have also run into a brick wall with both X-Com Gold (windows version so no DOSbox workaround) and Thief Gold.
I had zero issues with such things on XP, and now Vista is trying to make my brain explode with rage or something.
bought the new Vista DVD version on amazon.co.uk
so far no problems, just the excellent game I remember.
Who cares about that compatibility?
Planescape: Torment works just fine both on XP and Vista. Like most Infinity Engine games, by the way. It's real problem lies in its compatibility with newer nVidia cards, and they don't seem to be able to solve that problem. The current solution allows you to play without tinkering with graphic acceleration settings, but it's still far from perfect, and it's essentialy a workaround, not a real solution.
