Thanks, though I already had that one on the list. I have only discovered them recently, and although their site looks pretty amateuristic, I really like that they have implemented the local standard here (iDeal) to pay directly at your own bank, no credit card needed.

Just recently I could buy two 10$ GOGs. Since my native currency is € I decided to make an experiment and once I bought via PayPal and once via VISA (both configured so that they directly draw from my bank account and both without any yearly fixed fees, but the VISA with 1.75% abroad usage fee) on the same day at the same time.

I ended up with being charged 7.53€ by PayPal and 7,52€ by VISA (including the abroad usage fee).

This amounts to an effective conversion rate of 1€=1.328$, or about 4% below the official rate of about 1€=1.38$. Well thats roughly okay, and I do not know about the fees on GOGs side, although I can imagine that there is plenty room for improvement. Only a few big international transaction providers looks like an inefficient oligopoly to me.

Call me old fashion but I would like a MO(money order) option. I don't have a credit card and may never actually have one. I don't really trust paypal all that well.
So having a way to send in a MO would be really great for me.

Any chance of that happening at all?

I can't see how an adult can survive without a credit card. Without credit, you can't sign a mortgage, finance anything whether a car, boat etc. It also pretty much means no subscription services either. Look just because you have a credit card, doesn't mean you have to use it stupidly. You will need a credit card at some point.

I manage fine with a visa debit card

I think that, for the purpose of this discussion, that is the same as a credit card, in that it performs the exact same function.

I have to use my VISA Credit card at GOG because the Credit Union that I have my debit care with blocks GOG because of the Cyprus issue, and I would really rather use my debit care (and the Paypal option does not work;my CU still blocks the card when I use it with Paypal) but I am not going to demand that GOG changes everything just to aoomodate me.

The thing is that GOG wants to be sure that they get their money, i.e. that your bank account contains enough positive numbers. And they want to know instantly. A direct debit cannot ensure this, as the bank acount could be empty. So instead of negotiating with your bank directly, they get their money from paypal and credit card companies while paying them a fee. Now paypal and credit card companies deal with getting the money from you. In principle, its not neccessary, but because instant international direct transfer isn't just available yet, ... we still have to wait for it. But I guess, that killing the middlemen or installing more competition would surely make the whole process more efficient.

Actually outside the english speaking countries, credit cards aren't so popular. I don't use my credit card here in germany, an EC (direct debit) card is enough, and some online shops even send you an old fashioned bill. :) I just have it, because outside of germany sometimes it's the only possibility and it's for free.
