OK, so I get the invite for this thing, and I show up, and it's neat: Old Interplay games? Coool. No Wasteland or Bard's Tale, but we've got inXile for that. Codemasters? Eh, never my cup of tea, but Second Sight and IGI were fun, to a point. As the catalogue grows, and as people add to the wishlist, it seems, though, that a lot of you are missing the real thrust, the direction this place it trying to go: GOOD, that's the first part, and OLD.
People want to see games that're 2 and 3 years old, or brand new, on here, apperantly. Most of them are disqualified on both counts, as well. I wanna see OLD games, maybe even non-PC games (Wings, anyone? Anyone? You in the back? Philistines). No console stuff, we've got Gametap for that, at least for SEGA games. But things I played back on my Commodore 64, my Amiga 500, even back when I had a Pentium 2 MMX. I wanna be able to play Wing Commander 3 again, or Betrayal in Antara; to get Blood Omen to actually run for a change and not fail completely as soon as the intro ends. Last Samurai, Willy Beamish, Rise of the Dragon, Super Stardust? RPGS like Traveller, or Bad Blood. Newer-old stuff, Interstate '76, Mechwarrior 2, Hells, Battletech: Inception. Not Far Cry 2 and Spore, for the Gods' sake. Not Halo and Warcraft and Prey, but Dungeon Keeper! Dungeon Keeper! Last Express, Myth, Omikron! The veritible treasure-trove of SSI adventures, Perihelion, Budokan, Moonstone, Dragon Wars, Space Crusade, NEUROMANCER!

I agree that the wishlist is filled with inappropriately new games, not so much for the sole reason that they are new, but because it is a ridiculous pipe dream to expect a game like Spore to show up on GOG any time soon.
BTW - GOG already has games that are only 2 or 3 years old (Second Sight, Colin McRae, TOCA Race Driver).

Still don't get this whole "getting worked up about stupid entries on the wishlist" thing.
Basically, the list is self-regulating. Stupid entries are, by nature, stupid. They're not going to be voted high enough to matter, so they do no harm. I could go to the list right now and add "Flim-Flam Gibble Gobble Turbo," and the usefulness of the list would not be impacted one way or the other.
Besides, if you look at the 'most voted' section, you will see that every single entry matches the literal description 'good old game' perfectly. The system works. There is nothing to worry about here.

Well, actually, that doesn't vindicate the system. Voters showed taste this time, but what about when those games finally make it? How far down the list does one really have to go to find a 4 or 3 year old game?
The REAL regulation is the good sense of GoG themselves. I assume they have a very specific audience they're trying to cater to. If they have any business sense, I'm sure our needs will be satisfied (or we go somewhere else, that sometimes happens...)

Yes, it's possible that some collective mania might overcome the site's users, compelling them to abandon their senses and vote Spore and Halo 4 to the top of the list, but... how? It's just not likely.

One could argue that those games that are on the top of the list have stayed there because they have been the most notably displayed games on the wishlist since it started. People keep voting for them simply because they are there and easy to find, unlike any of the other games in the wishlist, which require manual searching or clicking through page after page of entries.

To a certain extent doesn't it depend on a gamer's age and history? While I didn't come here for games that are 2 and 3 years old, I'm also not here to play Commodore games either. I grew up playing computer games in the 90s, so that's the era I'm nostalgic for.

Oh man, Lemmings! The guilt, the triumph... I was really invested in the lives of my Lemmings as a child. I would buy all of those games in a heartbeat.
I have another series of games I would buy in a heartbeat... Oregon Trail. Someone tell me I'm not the only one who went through the pain of my settlers dying from snake bites and various illnesses.

Good and Old are very subjective words.
Should Good be defined by metacritic score, because several games have very average metacritic scores, but have grown into (cult) classics, at least with some people.
There are some games I loved, but which don't have particularly high average scores... but i think people would like them if they gave them a chance. And although I've voted for all the classics I know... i've already played most of THEM... i'm more interested in discovering a few hidden gems like Anateus Rising.
Also, while Spore and Farcry2 clearly aren't old.. what is old in PC game terms?
Morrowind would be considered pretty old by many PC gamers... (6 years is a long time in PC games, graphically it hardly compares to crysis. 1 OS ago, 1 console generation ago, etc..)
I'd say that anything thats gone out of the sales charts is a fair bet for GOG. And anything thats made it into the bargain bin, or off the shelves is definitely ok with me.
Try finding a copy of Psychonauts anywhere in a store...

First of all I have to commend your taste - there is almost no games on that list I wouldn't happily play for hours. Secondly: Perihelion!!! I loved that game. So underrated and undervalued.
However, getting non-pc games seems as farfetched as getting Spore (although I'd buy the old C64 or Amiga games and I wouldn't touch Spore with a 10' pole even without DRM). While there are options like WinUAE that could conceivably be used like DosBOX has been for a few titles I just don't see that happening. Besides most of those games would really require an old-style joystick (not analog) for full pleasure (although some are mouse-based).
Also as others have said "Good" and "Old" is subjective, although I hope we can all agree that Spore is not old :p Someone that is 20 will want games from around the mid-nineties to the millenium, while someone that is 25-30 will tend to want mid-eighties to mid-nineties. All generalizations of course.
I think Colin McRae and TOCA are pushing the definition of "Old" for most people, but they are at least "out of circulation". My feeling is that "old" means any game that isn't being actively sold (since those are the titles that companies might be willing to make an extra buck by letting GOG sell.
Finally - completely unrelated - I agree with whoever said that the "Most popular" list in the wishlist is self-fulfilling. Those 10 titles will obviously attract much more votes by virtue of their visibility alone. I really lack a way to see all the titles sorted by popularity so I could go back and vote for #11 of #15 if I found it was a game I really wanted.

Honestly I don't think GoG really have that much choice, I don't think they have some magic criteria to determine if a game is "Good" or "Old" enough to be sold here, in my opinion the only criteria for GoG to sell a game or not is whenever they have manage to get the license for it or not.
If tomorrow EA authorize GoG to sell Spore DRM-free they will most probably sell it, no matter that the game is not old and not that good.
