I had programs on my Commodre 64 that made my 1541 floppy drive play music. I always wondered whether they contributed to the fact that my 300 € drive (by today's standards) gave up after half a year, But I mostly attribute that to the excessive use of "9 second format", a tool that formatted a disk in 9 seconds (instead of the usual four minutes) and that apparently did things that weren't particularly healthy for the drive to achieve this.
