Dzsono: Basically all controllers copy the Playstation layout. The only Xbox configurations I have seen are from no-name brands and on that basis I wouldn't trust the quality of the hardware. If layout is that important, the Xbox 360 controller for windows is your only proper choice.
Bugger... I hate the PS layout with a passion. If only my Gamecube controller adaptor supported xinput, or less devs excluded proper directinput support and configurable controls...

I'm very surprised the layout hasn't been copied by other large manufacturers. My suspicion is that there's some kind of patent or copyright preventing legitimate production. Too bad :( Competition is good...

ReynardFox: One of black combo packs in the links above? That's reassuring if so, the original recievers seem to have a pretty high failure rate from the reviews I could find.

te_lanus: Blew another R600($66) and bought this. it's a bit heavier than my old one, (the old one is a bit worn out from too much use) . Works nicely with my current setup. And like the old one It'll never see a xbox360 :P
I have one of those, that's the one I was referring to above as 'special edition', they're for sale everywhere here and they cannot work on a PC without a standard receiver. The USB charger they come with does not connect them to the PC at all, it only powers the controller.

Mine works currently with the charger (since I'm charging the battery pack, thus currently a wired controller). I had a small problem when I used AA batteries (then put them back in my old controller) that Windows didn't see it. But taking the USB cable and connecting to windows, made it to work, Windows said it found new hardware and that the drivers was installed.

Here it's one of the more expensive controllers.

It's expensive here too, I've used three of them, each one on a different box and they simply do not work under Windows, they will pop up that the charger kit is installed and ready to use under win 7 but the controller will only activate and play on an Xbox.

Are you sure it isn't picking up your old receiver? I am really confused as being able to get this controller to work under windows with out one contradicts everything I've read about it since it was released.

Yip it's picking up my old receiver. Thought I put the charge cable into the old receiver's slot, instead put it into the scanners port :P. I did ask MS before thinking of replacing my old one, and they said that I just need the wireless receiverand all the xbox360 controllers will work. (but I'm on winXP so don't know for win7)
