You also miss the controversy at the 3DS release about the console logging all the games you were playing on it and being, theoretically, able to detect if you played unauthorized games and, in such case, brick itself. (Honestly I don't know if it ever was anything but a threat from Nintendo and if they actually every did it).

No didn't miss a thing, firmware updates to close security holes are a known part of consoles for 2 generations now, hell all 3 have bricked consoles that have been hacked thats par for the course but claiming the user only RENTS the hardware and so can't alter it and can never use their hardware again? R-Pi has no Wi-Fi, no built-in flash, no box, less RAM, its CPU is much slower, has no NEON, and it's just ARMv6. Why do you think it doesn't have X? Tegra 3 has binary blobs with X support for Linux 3.1, Ubuntu even has version for Tegra 3 based Nexus 7.

They all do that, read the user agreement, none of the three big console maker willingly accept that you tinker with their hardware and they will do everything in their power to prevent it (They don't make money selling consoles, they make money selling licenses, they want to to buy games, not to do something else with your console). Their aggressiveness has nothing to do with how nice/evil they are but only to how big the leak actually is.

Actually NO they bloody well don't only Sony claims they still own the hardware once it's in the hands of the user all the others just place restrictions for their services ie games and online, Sony claims that if you alter their system you don't just lose the right to use their services you lose the right to the hardware itself!

While the OUYA isn't a product that interests me I can imagine it finding its market with all those kids and teens who would like to play around, program, hack and so on but aren't allowed to do so on their (or their parents') computers or don't do it because they are afraid to break something. So they connect the OUYA to their TV and try it all out. AND they can use existing android apps on that thing. And although you can use those apps on your tablet as well, playing with more than one person at the same time isn't really comfortable on a tablet but works with an OUYA.
So yes, I can imagine that it will find its niche.

This is the pokemon ROM hacking community, and I shouldn't get in trouble with the mods here because these people (should) only be attaching the patch and not the ROM itself. Nintendo turns a blind eye to these people.

360 and PS3 are moddable to some degree too... you'll have to replace certain hardware parts for which you'll be banned from online activities, but at least for offline fooling around there are workarounds.

I know this got down repped, but I do see the system having problems attracting major publishers. It is sort of a chicken or the egg problem. Will there be enough user base for major companies to care enough to port games. On the flip side will there be enough games to get a high user base.

From what I read, even though its Android based, there will still be some porting work needed to get stuff running on it. I also don't know how willing publishers will be to port games to an open system that encourages people modding/hacking it. If it never gets off the ground with major devs, it might get relegated to Angry Birds/Emulator box status.

I hope it succeeds, but i dont think mainstream gamers will embrace it. They are looking forward to Battlefield 4 and Modern Warfare 4, etc. For me, if games are free or really cheap, then i might be interested in getting one.

Wait, what? What does Sony have to do with Chrono Trigger? The game is developed and published by Squenix. In fact, it was Squenix that shut down the Chrono Trigger remake project.
