I think the question was why is it a concern. Valve has no reason to collect information on your games, in fact all their client does is attach itself to a shortcut and then send whatever you've named your games to Valve for community features. At any rate, you can just use Steam in offline mode you know, since you're talking third party games here, Steam won't have to activate them.
