I've only actually played a little bit of Deus Ex.

It's one of those silly lines put in games that make it seem more like B-movie acting or gameplay than serious business....sort of like the Solid Snake line "A camera....where?!?" or the Silent Hill 1 line "It's a dog house, but I don't see any dog here." In both cases the objects being wondered about ARE present and/or in very plain sight so the lines make little sense and make one ponder and laugh. Watch the clip OP posted and you'll see what I mean by how JC overacts to the news.
