_Bruce_: Here... I'm still not even sure what the issue is. Or how to fix it. Or that the fix wouldn't be worse than the problem we are fixing.
So many action groups seem to not understand that people link the ones screaming with the entire community.

What I mean by this, is that idiots like GhostQlyph give transgenders a bad name and it does far more harm for these idiots to speak out (read also RPS) than for a more understanding approach where people might actually link that approach with the community instead.

That's really the problem with how the human mind works - if we see foreigners in the news doing bad things, we'll link their nationality with doing bad things because it's our main experience with said nationality. You can rationalize that, surely, they're not all like that (which is true), but you'd be fighting against instinct.

With feminism and every other sex-orientated movement, the people doing the shouting tend to be loud, obnoxious, using very poor reasoning, often seriously attack those they disagree with and throw away words like "gay bashers", "misogynists" like candy without really understanding their true meaning.

If I get insulted in such a way, I immediately disregard anything else that person has to say - and how on EARTH does it actually help those communities or parts of the population to have such, pardon my language, utter dimwits being the voice of them. RPS is a prime example - they fail to give proper criticism and instead whine about the smallest of issues, blowing them up to laughable proportions.

Oh noz! A guy asked an attractive lady if she was a boot babe at E3! He's such a sexist pig! Never mind that it was really a compliment regarding how good she looks, let's have a go at this vile creature for daring to find a woman attractive! *facepalms*

The PR crew is here! Damage control is in effect!
Wow ...it took me 4 hours to skim through the 'debacle' timeline.
Now I just have to inform myself on the RPS front.

I don't know if this is more disturbing or releiving.

I don't agree with that.
And I don't agree with most of your post in fact, on a general level. Many people may be influenced by what they see on the news, but not everybody, not me.

where most of the world's problems originate is people going to the news for their education instead of information.

With that lalala I can't hear you, how do you know when you're actually being an asshole?

Yes, he is. Feel free to find women attractive, get a boner all you want, but don't rub it on the women, verbally or otherwise. Assuming that a random woman wants to know whether you got a boner or not is sexism. Don't go around informing women you find them fuckable unless you're in a place where people go to actually look for casual sex.

Red_Avatar: Listen here, my uncle is a transgender - he wears women clothes all day long and while it's hard for me to think of him as a she (since I've known him for my entire life and it's just very hard if not impossible to do, especially since he doesn't act very female at all) and I've always supported him.
You're an ass. If your relative is actually transgender, instead of a dude who prefers wearing heels for an unfathomable reason, you should take your bloody time to spell "aunt" and "her". And if you make an accidental mistake, there's still the edit button. So no, you don't support your aunt.

Red_Avatar: A comic that was about to show how ridiculous MMOs can be, suddenly makes them support "rape culture" (and may I say that the term "rape culture" is pathetic anyway since it seems to imply that society accepts rape? - it's a fad word).
Rape culture is real. Society, by and large, accepts rape as a force of nature. Look up "asking for it". The comic was funny, though.

Now, here's what happened: a bunch of people saw the comic and got offended. Yes, people joke about cancer, too, and yet no one's complaining, "stop saying rep threads are the cancer that is killing GD, my grandma died from it, you insensitive asshole". People getting more riled up by rape is a fact of life. Some of them might be victims of rape, personally know victims or work with victims, others might have gotten rape threats, yet others might be scared to leave home for fear of being raped, etc. Point is: you don't police who gets the right to be justifiably offended and who doesn't. Some people were hurt. That's it.

Normally, as a comedian, you make a note of how many people were hurt (someone will be, duh), apologize if you look back and see you actually made a mistake, and go on with your life. In that case, something else happened: specifically, the hurt people got a second helping from a legion of misogynist fanboys. And then PA not only sided with the fanboys, but tried to capitalize on the whole shitstorm.

As for RPS, they are obviously doing exactly the same, that is trying to extract profit from an ages-old shitstorm. I hope they get nonconsensually DDoSed in the ass.

Sogi-Ya: whaa ... how ... what the hell?
... geez, what a dick.
(ok, I hate myself a little for that.)
Shame on you. There's a gender-appropriate equivalent, you know.

Starmaker: With that lalala I can't hear you, how do you know when you're actually being an asshole?
It's called putting things in perspective. It's the equivalent of accidentally stepping on someone's toes and getting your nose punched in response. It immediately stops any civil conversation from happening. If you're an ignorant loud-mouth and call me something horrible for an innocent comment, then, guess what? YOU are the problem, not the solution. If you think such an attitude will sway anyone to change their behaviour, think again.

Anyone who can't see past this comment as a form of compliment, has some serious mental issues if you ask me. I've had men and women hit on me in bars after a few beers (that's where this comment was made as well, by the way) and I always brushed it off with a joke. I didn't stare at them in shock and then blogged about it. "OMG someone thought I was attractive enough to hit on me! What HORRIBLE people!". Life is about learning to shrug things off if they bother you and while we can work on "educating" people to reduce the bad encounters, focusing on such a weak example is rather sad and that's my point - do you honestly feel that was worth blogging over?

Well I don't know in what fairy land you live, but people can't change how they feel. I can't force myself to see my uncle and see him as an aunt because I've known him for 35 years and I can't make the switch - it doesn't make me a horrible person. He doesn't mind at all and appreciates my support so do I care what you think? Fuck no.

Starmaker: Rape culture is real. Society, by and large, accepts rape as a force of nature. Look up "asking for it".
Western society does NOT accept rape. I don't know anyone that would EVER defend rape but people see others making "she shouldn't have worn trashy clothing out at night" remarks and suddenly, those people defend rape? Well gee, I must support a burglary culture since I tell people not to leave their car unlocked! Because, surely, trying to teach some responsibility, means they support every crime they're trying to warn people for? *facepalms* It doesn't stop you from being an idiot if your car gets stolen when you have left the keys inside. You can argue about how wearing different clothes won't make a difference but that's missing the point - only a tiny minority actually believed the girl is to blame and that doesn't make it a culture. People criticize all kinds of victims - not just rape victims - for doing something stupid and getting mugged, beaten up, etc. But that's a far cry from condoning the crime.

GhostQlyph: I step back in to see how things have evolved.

Aha. Yeah. I like how everyone focused on the "MRA and PUA" part, because god forbid they be well-meaning but WRONG.

I also like how everyone here says that "not accepting gender identity" isn't "transphobic", because that's exactly what it is. Not accepting sexuality is homophobia. There is no fucking difference.
"I refuse to accept that sexuality means anything other than between a woman and a man."
"I refuse to accept that gender identity can be separate from the genitals you had at birth."
These are the same thing. Here's another that might hit harder.
"I refuse to accept that art can include entertainment, such as video games."
Oh, and another.
"I refuse to accept that depression can be severe enough to qualify as a debilitating mental illness."

I can do those all day, but honestly it won't change anything with you types.

I can see now why all the intelligent people I loved and enjoyed before my lengthy hiatus bailed the fuck out of this hellhole.

Think I'll be joining them.

Have fun throwing insults at my back and twisting my words some more as I hit the door on these forums for the last time: all you're doing is proving me right.
Wow, bye.

It's a shame you wish to choose the obnoxious route as I think you do actually have a unique view to show us. Unfortunately it seems you have little wish to actually educate and instead only wish to insult and attack. Again, I don't care what gender you are, it ceases to matter with a toxic personality like yours.
A lot, like the vast majority, of the social justice crap happening in the games media right now is COMPLETELY in the right. I agree with 99% of it. The problem is games journalists are being so god damn abrasive and rude about it they're turning everyone off, even those who agree with them.

Yes, you can't sit around politely asking for equal rights. However you also can't jump on every single possible mistake or statement as evidence of horrible evilness that must get you fired, boycotted and considered a horrible human being.

In short chill the fuck out and report on video games. That's the core thing here.
We pay way too much attention to these media.
