I tried searching for this topic I created, but I dunno if the search function is borked or its just me being stupid.

So, as a follow up to that topic, maybe somebody is interested in how it plays.

Anyway, I got this (against my better judgement) even though I was disappointed with Game of Thrones, It had some neat ideas and I kinda hoped that this game would have perfected these ideas.

Anyway, the game has an interesting story and the goblin character that accompanies you (Styx) is really well done, defintely one of the coolest characters I have seen in awhile.

The dialogue is very americanised, with "what the fuck", "no fucking way" etc being dropped with gay abandon, the actors all sound like rejects from some Noo Yawk acting academy and sound really out of place to voice goblins and orcs.

The combat is very stilted, its nearly like a slow motion version of Dragon Age, without the finesse, you never feel as if you are in control of whats going to happen next in a fight. But, usually you send Styx in Stealth mode to assassinate an enemy, to thin their numbers, then run back to the orc (Arkil) and fight them as a group, BUT, if you move too far from Arkil, then run back, he wont move, like he's stuck in the scenary and you need to reload. Also, when combat pauses the bloom effect can sometimes make the scene look too bright and you cant distinguish friend from foe.

The camera, christ the camera would do your head in, for a Stealth character (Styx), you NEED to be able to see where you are going and check your environment easily, I even turned it to the lowest sensitivity, but it was still a bastard to control. Sometimes, you would check your map, turn the camera a wee bit, then you would chek your map to see that you had overshot the direction in which you wanted to travel and have to try and fine tune it again and again. The camera also seems too close at times to your characters, impairing your field of view.

This is all a great shame as the story is quite interesting, which is a similar complaint I had with GoT, if you can get the game cheap, I suggest you give it a shot, but otherwise, avoid it

I would bet that if I get this now I'll be disappointed but in a few years googling around trying to find some interesting titles and then remembering this. A classic with flaws. Thanks for your review.

I don't get why people only accept British accents in a fantasy game or movie or TV show. The game does not take place in the UK... There is nothing wrong with the accents, being American instead of British. If you just hate that kind of American accent, I understand but that doesn't mean the accent sucks and shouldn't be in a game.

Well, its a medieval setting, there were no US accents back then, but the irksome part for me would be the "modern" americanisms as opposed to the accent itself, The goblin sounds like he's from New Jersey for example, he sounds more like a mobster than a goblin....maybe the devs mixed up monster and mobster in the dictionery, on saying that he really is a cool character, is just the modern slang seems out of place.

You’ve got a point there. A goblin sounding like a mobster is just way too much.
I had to stop playing this, the combat is so utterly shite, its pointless, you never feel as if you have control in combat, between the clipping, camera and horrid AI .
Orcs are filthy barbarians that need to be hewn asunder by good honest Dwarven steel,
I fully endorse the idea of goblin mobsters. I'd also like to see more halfling street gangs.
Played it. Liked it. Complained about pathfinding and human character models. Nice dialogs except those "fucks" over and over again. However if anyone is expecting a true rpg... well it's not. It's more of a third person adventure with rpg elements, but it's still good enough.
