oh it was fan made was it
I thought that was a little low quality for roberta williams

now that makes sense

yes space quest 0 and lost chapter were both awesome

there are two more space quest fan made games you should check out

.Space Quest: vohaul strikes back (absolutely fantastic for a fan made game. nice and long as well) it's hilarious
.Space Quest: incinerations (pretty decent as well)

time to add some more to the list:

.Amazon: Guardians of Eden
.Bone: Out from Boneville
.Bone: the great cow race
.clock tower 1 (psx)
.clock tower 2 (psx) (both survival horror/point and click)
.countdown (the game has a time limit which ruins it for me)
.Cruise for a Corpse
.Curse of Enchantia
.lure of the temptress
.dark seed
.dark seed 2
.Duckman: The Graphic Adventures of a Private Dick
.Emerald City Confidential
.KGB
.Limbo of the Lost
.maupiti island
.neverhood (can be considered obscure because it was made with clay)
.The Orion Conspiracy
.operation stealth
.wayne's world
.ace ventura
.Dune
.Normality (the 3d graphics in the one are so bad that they'll make you nauseous) I don't recommend it
.Rise of the Dragon
.Sentient (myst clone if I remember correctly)

oh and a really really lesser known one:
.Mansion of Hidden Souls (sega cd/sega saturn)

That game actually really amazed me. Playing it felt like it was an authentic Sierra game. From the look to the writing and design, it seemed like something the company would have released, had they kept making adventure games for a longer time.

I'd also like to recommend a game called Keepsake. Absolutely beautiful and with a really good atmosphere, though rather different from most point and click adventures since it doesn't really have any real inventory puzzles. The game utilizes pretty much entirely logic puzzles. It also features a brilliant in-game hint system that can be incredibly helpful.
The only real negative aspect I found in it was the fact that there is no fast-travel mechanic. Since the castle in which the story takes place is really, really huge (admittedly contributing a lot to the title's epic feel), it often results in a lot of running between locations.

I can also tell you that the Phantasmagoria games are pretty entertaining in a B-movie sort-of way. I have a soft spot for the second one, "A Puzzle of Flesh", in particular, which actually became a lot more widely known after The Spoony One did a near legendary Let's Play of it. Phantasmagoria!

Speaking of obscure and lesser known adventure games have anyone played Evil Days of Luckless John?
If the answer is "yes", I'd like to hear the impressions.

I haven't played it yet
but from the screenshots I gather that it's not a pure adventure game

It definitely has shooting in it

Might still be good.

Some games that try to reinvent the wheel like that end up really flopping though

I'd have to play it to know I guess
------------------------------------------------------------
I did play Biosys this weekend though

I got 33 percent of the way into it and one of the biospheres died

so I might have to start over :/

I'm not sure at this point if that was part of the story or not

The amount of work keeping the character and biospheres alive really distracts from the pace of the adventure.
I think the game time is running much faster than it should though
I might have to buy cpukiller to enjoy playing this one...

Either way I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for something really obscure, but only if you feel like a lobotomy.

Just make sure you have windows 95 on a virtual machine or else there's no way you'll get it working

don't worry... I didn't spoil anything you don't learn at the beginning of the game

I ended up beating toonstruck instead this weekend after about 8 hours of frustration with byosis. I think this is one of those games that you just have to pick at slowly like playing riven for the first time without a walkthrough.

I'd like to plug a hidden gem I discovered (relatively) recently: Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass. Braussie was kind enough to gift me a copy about a year ago, and it turned out to be a solid recommendation, especially as I probably wouldn't have given it a second glance otherwise. Good comedy writing, likeable characters, fun puzzles - all in all, a fresh-feeling reminder of why I play adventure games. It put a smile on my face from start to finish.

DotJ is actually a sequal to the original "Da New Guys", which is available as a free download, but I actually recommend playing the second one first - it's a much more polished experience (and you don't need to know the plot of the first game to follow it). The original DNG is fine and all, but if I'd played it first I'm not sure I'd have felt inspired to try the second, which is definitely the superior title.

oh i didn't know there was a sequel to that
played the first one though
I'll have to put that on my list

thanks :)
Update on Biosys:

I watched the game time and compared it with my clock...

70-80 minutes passed in the game in about 10 minutes of real time
so I was right... it is running way too fast.

Someone needs to release an updated version of this game because it would be really really awesome if this time thing was fixed..

It would become more than playable if someone basically stopped the game time from passing when the character is just sitting still. So when you start moving from scene to pre rendered scene the game time would still pass but not when you're not moving.

I'll try cpukiller but I doubt that'll fix the issue
I even turned down my virtual machine's memory to under 16 mb and it still ran this fast
I finally bought ASA: A space adventure last night
man this one is a gem
it's like myst but on a spaceship :P

i guess it could be considered obscure or lesser known since it's an indie game
anyways, this one is worth it
it's only like 12 bucks as well :)
