I'm trying hard to avoid this console since I already had a dslite (2 actually) but with the new Pokemon games, Animal Crossing and eventually Monster Hunter 4 (gaahhhh), I may have to pick this up eventually.

The DS was capable of N64-like graphics, while the 3DS is capable of Gamecube-lke graphics.

Oh brother, total facepalm. One other thing, who smiles when they play video games? I usually just rage ;p

The same way all the PS3 games that don't support stereoscopic 3D "acts like normal [PS2] game[s]"? Yes, I don't think the DS would be anywhere near producing similar graphics as the 3DS. Not that I think "OMG, pretty graphixz" has ever been much of an argument.

Anyway, any point about the DS having a bigger library than the 3DS is moot, seeing as all but a handful of them are playable on the 3DS (and 2DS for that matter). What's happening with the Wii U is completely irrelevant. And last I checked, the 3DS has been outselling the DS at the same point in its life cycle. Again, it seems quite clear (at least to me) that this product is geared towards the youngest customers. Those who likely don't already have a DS. Again, you're not part of the target audience of the console. See my reply further up. Everyone is only talking about them. So what do you think the annoyed parents will read on the wishlists of
their brats? Than they go shopping and drop dead seeing the price-tags for said consoles.
The Wii U is dead even with the announced price drop of $ 50 starting 20.09.13.
They only make money with their portables. But a lower price for the 3DS with the same technic
would send them even more into the red zone. Also don't forget the warning about the 3D effect.
Still its nuts what they are doing...the big reason for buying the 3DS is 3D and now playing 3D games

Still it doesnt't exclude the point with over a 1000 or 6000 whichever you pick that there are only a handful of good games the same will happen with the Wii-U and the 3Ds. Nintendo did not seem to have learnt from it.

- What is happening with the Wii-U is definitely not irrelevant, if publishers get bad sales on the Wii-u they might as well just drop Nintendo on the 3Ds as well. Take EA.

The 2ds is nothing newer it just downgrades the 3ds.
Like having the prototype for a Porsche, though you strip it down and make Volkwagens with it and selling it for that price.

I may actually get one of these at some point since my DS Lite recently died. I don't care for the 3d gimmick as every time I've tried a 3ds it gave me a headache. Plus it looks like the D-Pad is in a more comfortable spot than the regular 3ds, which is a concern of mine as I got hand cramps sometimes from playing a DS Lite a long time.

Will wait to see what black friday specials pop up for it.

Three things:

1.The price should be under 100$. As for now it is dilemma should I buy 3d feature for 40 bucks.
2.The design screams for GB/GBA slot in the side.
3.Nintendo's handheld which won't fit into the pocket. It sounds terrrible. :-/

So, can you use 3DS game in this, or do you have to wait until the 2ds games come out. As others have said it would be nice cheap solution for those kids that are too young and may damage a 3ds, but if you have to buy the games all over again.

I don't see what this has to do your with your original point in any case. In any case, the DS has 232 games in its library with a metacritic score of 75+, what they call "generally favorable". And before you ask, no, I don't consider Metacritic, or metacritic scores, as the end-all, be-all to what is a good game. The point is, whether either of us agree, the DS is widely regarded as having one of the best libraries of any console ever. Surely you understand my point. When whoever it was at Nintendo who sat down and decided to make this, which market segment do you think they expected this to have the most penetration in? Strawman.
Note my use of the word 'replaced'. No one has ever said that this will replace the 3DS. It should've been quite clear from your quote that I was responding to (where you mention the 2DS/3DS being replaced down the line) that I was not talking about the 2DS replacing the 3DS.

There were a small number of games that required the GBA port, and those are the ones that won't work. Everything else will.

According to wc -l on the file I put those in, that's 116 games. Now, I know overall that that's only something like 8% of the total library, but I'd say 116 games is more than enough to justify owning a platform and is definitely more than just a handful. And considering how the 3DS's library is shaping up, I'm sure it'll have just as many quality games for me in the long run.
