Do you know when the next big sales are coming ? I've got like a hundred games to buy !
Summer.

some digital distributors will probably do something around Easter as well, and some may have a sort of a spring sale, but nothing that compares to the Summer and Holiday Sales.

Being new to using Steam and GG I was wondering the same thing.

It might be a lot to ask, but would it be possible for someone who knows about such things to make a list of sales that usually happen, with approximate dates (like, Christmas Sales - December)? I'm going to try not to buy anything that isn't on sale, and that might be easier to force myself into if I know there's another sale just around the corner :)
Like FRED_DM said Easter (April) is probably next.

From my experience with GOG for more than a year.

Sales on GOG:
First and third wednesday in the month: one game for 50-60% discount.
Every weekend if there are no other big announcements going on: 3-6 games for 40-60% discount.
Summer sale: 2-3 weeks in july about half the catalogue with 30-50% discount.
Christmas sale: approx. one week before christmas til start of january virtually the whole catalogue for 50%.
Rare but happens: Permanent price drops for older games.

That can be expected for this year again.

I too only bought games on sale lately. The backlog is too huge not to wait with wishlisted games. After all I might never be able to play them.

I think only winter.

Yes it was something during summer last year (new sale every day for one game) but it wasn't even comparable to xmas 2011 sale when you can select any game during sale.

GOG is known for gem and weekend gem promos - but you are ablt to get only one/a few games per sale. The only big sales (almost all games with discount) were xmas sales.
Next Summer.

SLVPRO: Next Summer.
Maybe on Steam or Gamersgate. But not on GOG. Last time it was only a small pack of games (one different game sale for each day), no bigger sale.

I am still saying: if you want to have full selection of games on sale you need to wait for winter (unless GOG will change something in 2012 of course).

Great, thank you !
Most of the companies work their sales at around the same times - although sometimes they throw in extra ones here and there.

Typically you can expect big sales events on mid-summer and Winter - they will be the biggest and often longest sales.
After that you've Easter, Halloween and Turkey day in the USA (I forget what its called properly, but that day they all eat turkeys that isn't christmas).

Companies might also have random sales events through their cycle, the ones for GoG have already been mentioned with their weekly sales.
Over on steam you've also typically a Midweek and Weekend sale event, plus most new release get a discount right after launch for a short time. GoG is fairly predictable, Steam and many of the others can be a bit more random with sales events and can oft be worth checking out fairly regularly.

Steam tips for sales:
1) Never use the installer, instead login on the internet and buy through that. The sales tend to send Steam installer into lag and glitch mode with all the massive attention it gets- whilst the net version appears more stable.

2) With bit Winter and Summer events there are overall deals that last the whole deal period (dates are always stated) whilst each day there are a selection of games that get an extra big discount. Thus you always make a wishlist and wait to see if any of the games you want come up on the daily extra big discount day. Only on the last day do you purchase games from the regular deals (because at that point they won't be getting a chance at the dailies).

This post has my seal of approval. ;)

There may be a few other sales than the ones mentioned above--I have to justify to GOG.com why they keep me around, after all--but if you check out the main page every week or so you won't miss out on anything extra.
