Seems that Disney's just renewed the trademark of Maniac Mansion franchise. Is something happening?

I sincerely hope so. They have a LOT to answer for in terms of what their new direction within LucasArts (and Disney Interactive as a whole) is, and my guess is we will know more at E3.

Almost certainly just making sure they keep hold of the trademark, I doubt they plan on doing anything with it.

Ugh. I hope not :( DOTT is one of my favourite games. I seriously cannot imagine anything good coming from a remake/sequel/re-imagining/etc...

I will only settle for a plain re-release (either that or a gritty FPS reboot).

Well, it means they're at very least seriously considering doing something with the franchise. Doesn't mean anything for sure, though. Keep in mind that it may not even be a video-game; it could just as easily be a movie. In fact, on greater reflection, I think it's more likely to be a movie than a game. This is an old property that hasn't seen a re-release in over 20 years, and its brand value as a video-game is pretty minimal. It seems more likely that someone has adapted it into a movie script than is trying to revive a video-game franchise that's long buried.
