sedricm: Wow, rainkeeper...I don't know much about psytrance as a genre, so I'm not sure what you were going for..but that being said, the way you mixed that pitch-going-down sound with the pitch-going-up sound was impressive! You are a Renaissance Rose indeed.

I have to say, though, the effect of that double-pitched sound was cool at first, but after a while it started really making me feel uncomfortable; I really found the "laughing" sounds very unsettling, and maybe it was that, mixed with the double-pitched sound that made me feel like my brain was getting warped, and my insides squooshed around.

Then again, maybe that was the desired effect, since you had the Matrix quotes in there? (I do dearly love the Matrix, it's one of my all-time favorites...so hearing a little bit of Morpheus did feel like a little relief from the bizarre sounds and the creepy laughing...but then I confess I skipped past most of the second half of the song.) Perhaps you were trying to give us the feeling of what it might've been like to be "Mr. Anderson" being extracted from the Matrix for the first time? If so, then I think you're on the right track... XD

I don't mean to be critical; I know some people are big fans of experiencing distortions of reality...and I think this does that.
At least it did for me! But I must confess I've never liked the things at amusement parks that have, like, crazy mirror buildings with creepy music and fog, etc., (I know they're called "funhouses" but they certainly don't fit my definition thereof, haha) and that's what I'm sort of reminded of as I've been typing this out.
Then again, I don't particularly like the "thrill rides" at theme parks either, and I have never set foot in a haunted house, (nor do I intend to any time soon, lol!)

What is the desired effect that you're going for in your music, is the question I'd ask you?
To my uninitiated ear/brain, it certainly was trippy, if that's the goal.

rainkeeper777: well im aim for dark psy but that will take me a long ways. but yea just psychedelic trance music or how its called psytrance. with my own touch. i do experimental style. but i am surprised that it did that to you. perhaps your new to psytrance or something its ment to be trippy mines in just a basic from some gos way over the top on being trippy which is what i like. ive been listening to psy for many many years so yep now trying to learn the music making of it my self.

and all points both good and bad do wonders for me since it helps me learn if you dont like it tell me so i want get mad over something simple like that. i got many miles to go before i learn and get the sound im aiming for.

sedricm: Well then, I think you are starting from a good place, then! The only psytrance I've heard was much more relaxing and happy-sounding, but I imagine that is probably not what "dark psy" is about lol. Anyway, it seems like the ingredients you're working with so far are solid; especially if they are just "basic"...I guess next you want to experiment with some more complex pieces to put into the main body of the mix? To break up the repetition, or rather augment it, I suppose?

NoNewTaleToTell: I really enjoy some psytrance (especially dark psytrance) so I'll give it a listen later and let you know what I think.

rainkeeper777: oh well err i dont throw my self to any one. i just like sharing my stuff. on music wise to gets inputs on what needs work and how to improve. I got a lot of stuff i keep to my self like my writings i work on. those i share with no one.

The only way ive gotten this far is by people putting there voice so i can learn ^^

catpower1980: OK, as a general remark, I would say the track is too "shy" :) It should be more daring, like emphazing the main loop melody more. If I didn't listen carefully, I wouldn't have noticed the change in the main melodic loop around 2'30'' (the "rattling" sound effect). Blast the listener with your effects and changes ;) Put it a little bit louder in the mix so you can feel more the evolving sound and make some corrections when needed.

The breaks/drops of the track aren't clearly marked and so the song composition feels monotonous. I guessed it before even listening just by watching the soundwave graphics. If you go to beatport, you can watch the soundwaves of the songs and even for sick full-on trance tracks, you can directly see the composition of the song and its highs and lows:

Now I salute your efforts because psy-trance is one of the hardest style to learn. I still haven't really dived into it because it's easier to do ambient/chill-out tracks and I lack time at this moment but here's a retty good thread if you want to dig further (it's goa but you can apply some techniques):

Oh, if you haven't done it yet, I would recommend getting Gross Beat (useful gates), Poizone and Toxic Biohazard (it's faster to tweak the presets than creating sounds from scratch)

again thank you all for the feedback. once i get my proper set up and tools and all that stuff i can this go full force into learning this stuff. and yep your right psytrance is very hard to learn as it has so much sound and so many other things to get in line.
