Magnus: No! More, more!

I rather have them publish blend of all game genres so everyone is happy. Also too many games in one genre eventually start eating each others sales (well this does not directly affect GOG as sale of one game is same as any other but if no game sell enough then developers/publishers wont be interested in offering more games on GOG.)

Faithful: It is an RTS in the sense that it is Real Time. However, it is unlike what one would typically think of as an RTS in that the object is not to build as big of an army you can, as fast as you can to go kick your rivals. It is much more about research, goods and economy than building armies. You will need them but it is not the first think you ever think about.

That's what i thought. I wouldn't call it an RTS in that case. I guess it is technically "real time strategy" but it isn't what is traditionally thought of as an RTS.. it's more of a sims/management/empire building game.
I wouldn't say Evil Genius was an RTS either... it's more of a Dungeon Keeper style game.
Actually, of the last 5 games, I'm not sure any are what you'd call a traditonal RTS. You have a couple of empire building/management games, a Dungeon Keeper game and a Real Time Tactics game.
Earth 2160 was the last REAL RTS.

Nissur: Has the music been fixed yet for Alien Nations? And does it work in The Nations? If so I might be interested in picking it up. Well atleast the soundtrack is there, so it is possible to play the music through media player while running the game, but I would prefer to have it directly in the game.

Firek: Unfortunately it isn't fixed yet, but if you're willing to spend a few minutes, there's a workaround. The game natively used Audio CD, so if you burn the bonus soundtrack onto an Audio CD (or create an Audio CD image and then mount it) then the game will play music normally. Or you can use any other Audio CD if you wish (right now I'm listening to Vader in the Alien Nations main menu...:P).

Heh, I recently booted up the game and got a shock when I heard a recording of a gig I was at while I was on the game main menu. It was 2AM, a little too much coffee and I thought I was done for it. A simple eject button on the CD-Rom fixed it.
I think I need to write my first review (this isn't it, just some initial thoughts).
At first I found Alien Nations and The Nations incredibly difficult to understand. Builders just standing at sites with no progress, but later realising you need to send the carriers over to transport material etc.
Then I had difficulties in understanding how to get the untrained citizens into school and what professions they should study.
It's a hard learning curve, but once you are comfortable and familiar with the command interface and understand the procedures, it's a very addictive game.
Potentially the best $8.98 I've spent this year....
I've still lots to learn though :)
I got a little side tracked this week, but i still got it in time.
Thanks guys.
Going to check the weekend promo now.

I thought that too, but as soon as I bought it and installed an error appeared: when I got ingame, everything slows down and I can't play (already reported). :/ I love this game but I'm on my limits...
