After releasing a more complex and demanding game earlier this week, today we're offering you a pure mix of mindless-action and fun!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/shadowgrounds]Shadowgrounds is an arcade style, top-down alien shooter, and actually it's one of the best there is. The game features a pure old-school type of gameplay and graphics that were extremely nice when the title was released and still are more than appealing by today's standards. The plot revolves around aliens invasion on a distant space colony, but where the game really shines is the huge arsenal of weapons and boss fights. You can choose an impressive number of deadly weapons like flame thrower, grenade launcher or electric gun and upgrade them throughout the whole game. And you'll need those powerful guns when meeting face to face with the BIG bosses! If you're scared to wander through dark corridors alone, play in co-op mode with up to 3 friends on one computer. So are you ready to see for yourself what is lurking in the shadows?
Blame me for this release/publisher. :) Nice to see it finally.
Will this work with a 360 controller? I only want top down shooters if I can play them with thumbsticks.
Shadowgrounds is an excellent game.

I actually remember hating the demo a long time ago (ran out of ammo, got killed, end of story), but I got Shadowgrounds on a Steam sale a year ago and ended up loving it.

The game has issues with the 360 controller. Triggers aren't supported, and you may not be able to achieve the dual-stick Geometry Wars / Nation Red style gameplay.

Here's asuggested control mapping. You may wanna try it with the demo.

I played the whole thing with keyboard + mouse myself, and it was great.

Great addition!
I hope the soundtrack will be added too. Great music in this one folks. They once sold the soundtrack with the musicians autograph, sadly, the markers didn't hold long When i got mine, they already stopped doing those signings. ;)
Funny, I was just thinking that the shooter genre here needed a bit more attention.

Good release GOG.
Awesome news. I played this a while ago, and I really enjoyed it at the time. Definitely recommended if you enjoy these type of top down shooters, and if I remember correctly, the soundtrack was pretty decent as well.

Hillsy_: Recommended, own this one and the sequel Survivor. Both are better than the new Alien Breed Series and Alien Swarm.
Damn right!!!

Thank you kindly for the info! I can (probably) live without the triggers, but it's more that I can't stand playing this type of the game with the keyboard and mouse.

GameRager: Keyboard and mouse is for people who can handle two sets of controls and more than a dozen or so buttons at once......just saying. Once learned and mastered, it is usually(but not for all games) the best control method around.
Well, it's just my personal preference. I prefer mouse control for FPS games, strategy games etc, I just think that for top-down shooters á-la Alien Breed, the mouse is less fun than the gamepad. It's not really about performance, just fun, as far as I'm concerned.
Aww... If my budget wasn't so tight right now, I'd buy a second copy here. Too bad I already bought one on Impulse, I really prefer GOG over any other download service.
Yet another game I must buy . . . =)

Yeah, this sort of game really benefits from a dual-stick layout like a console pad.
Looks like a great Game!!!!!!!!!!!1
Too bad I have these on Steam or I'd buy them.
