Finally, a new platformer on GOG.com! Or, to be more precise, one of the greatest titles the genre has ever seen!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/rayman_forever]Rayman is a 2D platformer game and the first title of a famous series that spawned sequels and spin-offs beyond count. The Forever edition, released by Ubisoft around 3 years after the original game, includes a bunch of goodies, most notably a level editor and Rayman By His Fans - 40 of the best staff-picked levels made with that very editor.
The game itself is a true platformer, with a strong emphasis on timing and reflex-based challenges, rather than combat. Its difficulty seems just right, in a way that makes you have to earn every level, but leaves you thoroughly satisfied afterwards.
Finally, Rayman still looks great, despite being over fifteen years old. This is mostly due to its amazing, fluid animations, but the game's high-color graphics and creative level design are sure to make an impression on you as well.
Overall, today's release is a pure, classic platformer that every gamer should at least try out.
Really unexpected
I loved this when I was younger, but the difference was that I had it on Playstation and not the Forever edition. I will be considering getting this sometime in the future, as I miss playing Rayman. The newer games containing the adventures of Rayman... I've somehow not fallen for them as I did for this one. xD

Kabuto: Why do some members insist on writing pointless reviews for games they have no intention of buying.

Two reviews:

1. 5.99$? It's a bit to expensive. .

2. this is not a bad game, i rember playing it when it came out, and if it is ever part of a promo then i would consider getting it.. but not at the price it is at the moment .

What is the point of these reviews? If you have nothing to say about the actual game, why even post? For that matter, how is $5.99 expensive?
Agreed. I've spent more for crap games in the past, and most of the GOG catalog is certified non-crap. Content-wise, Rayman is an excellent deal for the price, giving you a long play time (for a sidescrolling platformer) and beautiful graphics and sound. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I didn't have a mere ten bucks in my bank account 'til monday :P

Lafazar: ...
Unless the problem is a legal one and you don't have the rights to the original game, but I don't think that should be impossible to get for you.
avatar
Paczyk: Like you said, there are some legal issues involved. It is not impossible but very complicated, that's why I can't make any promises :(
Are you telling me there's a mistake in this Wikipedia article? It states disc space as the issue for not including the entire soundtrack. Which is right?
HOLYCRAPRAYMAN.

This was the first game I got on my PS1 when I was 8, but it was lost while moving. I've had all the intention to nab it from the PSN for a while now, but I might as well just grab it from here. This is just incredible.

Second it!
I demand Heroes Chronicles!

Overall, today's release is a pure, classic platformer that every gamer should at least try out.

iuliand: Maybe it is, but no thank you. I've tried this when I was a kid and I found it too frustrating for me (and boring?).
Maybe next release is for me (suggestion: Heroes Chronicles ;) ).

If you (or any other GOG.com employee) can disclose this publicly, what sort of legal issues would GOG.com be looking at to add the missing soundtrack songs into Rayman Forever?

Amez: Now, if Rayman 2 is going to come out.. THAT is going to be a wtfinstabuy.

Roberttitus: You got a system besides a PC? Well if you do, then you are in luck.... it is on every system known to man. I wish Ubisoft would just get an original idea for once instead of rehashing the same goddamn game with no improvement (often times... such as the DS version... it is made worse) & calling it a NEW game.
Unfortunately no, PC is the only platform i've ATM, even though i'm pondering to grab a N64/NGC or SNES -for Glorious Retrogaming Sessions (GRS).
I still have the original Rayman 2 (And Rayman M, for that matter..) CDs, but of course, modern OSes just punch with it.
And yes, i checked Rayman 3DS out, and i'm completely disappointed...shame on you, Ubisoft!
Alas, the only hope for the franchise is the marvelous Rayman Origins, wich , for istance, is the only game i'm waiting for along with TeS V: Skyrim (Since i heard the epic main theme. And,for once, it has beards!) and BG&E 2.
On a side note, Wikipedia says the game comes with 20+40(!) extra levels, is that right?
Also: a fridge magnet.
Now, that's some nice bonus!

All I want is the homeworld series...
Heck yes! The Rayman series is one of my all-time favorites, and I always considered the first three games to be up there with the best platformers, such as Sonic and Mario. I never got a chance to play the Forever version of Rayman 1, so I'll be sure to give this one a shot!
Instant buy for me!

Truck: Wait. We have an irc channel? Where? Why am I not there?

I'm way too old to have any nostalgic feelings towards this game (from a historical perspective, the notion of a "classic" platformer released in the latter half of the 1990s doesn't make any sense to me). That said, I've only heard good things about this first Rayman title so it will be added to the wish list for sure...
Finally! Something other than an RPG or strategy game!

This was one of the earliest PlayStation games I ever played, I'll have to pick it up when I have time to play it. I remember it being very challenging, but then again all platformers where hard back in the day. These days platforming is practically automated. This game should be quite refreshing for the hardcore gamer I am!

It's simple. Some people are severely lacking in mental faculties. Pity them, for they are borderline mindless and cannot help but post useless reviews in the hope of garnering some form of attention.
