Most squad-level tactics games are pretty serious, encouraging you to think fast and not get your men killed. Police Quest: SWAT 1 and 2 make all of them seem casual.

Police Quest: SWAT 1 is an interactive cinematic adventure and SWAT 2 is an isometric-view real-time tactics game. Initially released as part of the Police Quest series, SWAT eventually spawned a spin-off series of its own. Both games are very focused on following proper procedure - you can't just waltz in, shoot everything that moves and then sort out who's who. Even failing to call for the suspect to surrender before arresting him will look bad to the public and in your files. A Police officer's job is a tough one so don't expect these games to cut you any slack.
On the other hand, SWAT 2 lets you play on the other side - as the leader of a radical left-wing terrorist group. Don't think this means you can do whatever you want, though.
Now put your serious face on and discover how real a game can be.

Kaidane: I'll never forget that mission in SWAT where you have to arrest the crazed grandmother with a shotgun. Having played this as a kid, it scared the shit out of me.
Same here, I got stuck on trying to get her in the bathroom. The squad leader would tell me to watch the door and I would but I would die constantly. You have to do something that you don't ever do again in the game. 5 years latter and I finally beat it.

I once managed to get into the back entrance of the final mission. I didn't save when I got in so I screwed up and managed to die.
Is there an ending to SWAT 1 or do those same missions just keep repeating over and over? Cuz I remember forcing myself to try to beat it and Id do 2 or 3 missions then itd send me back to do them again

I played it again a few years ago and just shot her the hell up when she appeared. Although you would be investigated you would usually be cleared (since she was usually trying to shoot other SWAT members, obviously).

I looked it up later and it turns out getting her to surrender is relatively simple. I didn't really know what I was doing at the time.

Swat 1 is very limited and it is realistic to the point of being boring at times but does give you a idea of what being a member of a Real SWAT team is like.
Swat 2 is and interesting idea:A Jagged Alliance style strategy game about a SWAT team that does not quite jell together, but is still worth playing.
THis package is worth the Ten bucks.
But, to be honest, the series did not really come together until SWAT 3.
I just downloaded this and SWAT 2 does not work. I get a message saying a file, D3Dx9_43.dll was not found, and reinstalling might solve the problem.I tried reinstalling and it did not fix the problem. ANd then I could not email GOG about this until I "lied" by choosing a topic other then Tech support for games since when I chose the help with games on the contact page all it did was send me back to the Tech Support page.
Pretty angry at the moment.

i believe you just have to install directx...could be wrong though
It's a shame they're bundled. I'd quite like SWAT 1 but I already own SWAT 2, I know it's only $9.99 but I could spend that on a game I don't have at all instead.
Cool release. I've always wanted to play these games.
Was waiting for this, glad you released them. ;)

Although I thought for $9.99 you would bundle the first three games, not only the first two. And sell the fourth separately. 3 x $9.99 is too much...

I too get this error when I attempt to run it. I'm on Win7 64-bit and my DXDiag says that I already have Direct X 11 installed. I wasn't sure if 11 comes with all past updates so I tried to install DX9 as well to be safe and it still doesn't run.
Download the game, installs and runs fine (apart from the occasional sound glitch). One thing I noticed with Swat 1. I cant save! IT just tells me that there is no mission details to save or something, same message each time.

Anyone else get this?
I tried before, during and after missions, during and after training, different locations, cant get save to work anywhere.

So I'm not the only one who encountered that too eh?
